I'd talk to God, too...but he never returns my calls

Pat Robertson: God told me of ‘mass killing’ in 2007

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia (AP) — Evangelical broadcaster Pat Robertson said Tuesday that God has told him that a terrorist attack on the United States would cause a “mass killing” late in 2007….”I’m not necessarily saying it’s going to be nuclear,” he said during his news-and-talk television show “The 700 Club” on the Christian Broadcasting Network….”The Lord didn’t say nuclear. But I do believe it will be something like that.”

Man, it must be nice having a hotline to the Almighty that doesn’t involve peyote buttons or other harsh hallucinogens. Of course, in Robertson’s case, conversing with God might be merely an indication that he needs to get his medication adjusted again. And isn’t it interesting how God seems to converse with him directly? Man, if that were the case, you’d think that Robertson would be looking for information he can use, like stock tips, or which team will win this year’s Super Bowl. After all, what good is having a direct line to God Almighty if you can’t use it to your advantage?

Is there anything more openly and absurdly self-promotional than a preacher who not only talks to God, but uses those conversations to make predictions about major future catastrophes? What I find truly disturbing and amazing is that there are still a large number of seriously delusional Christians out there who not only take Robertson seriously, they BANKROLL him. Unbelievable.

Now, if God would just return my damn calls, maybe I could get my own television network and fleece old ladies out of their life savings, too….
