Memo to Virgil Goode and Glenn Beck: suck on this!

Keith Ellison Shocker: Thomas Jefferson Hated America!

Congressman to take oath on Jefferson’s Quran

[T]he 110th Congress will be sworn in (the nation be will unemployed, aflame, and overrun by Human-Animal Hybrid Rights Terrorists by Monday). Only one new Congressman has managed to stir up any excitement about this boring photo-op: Keith Ellison (Terrorist-MN), the first Muslim elected to the House of Representatives. Last month, Rep. Virgil Goode wrote a crazy letter in which he promised to deport the Minnesota-born Ellison before him and his jihadist buddies took over the House and made our children into Arabs who had to pledge allegiance to the French flag and get gay married. Goode’s main concern was that Ellison asked to be sworn in with the Koran. Today’s Reliable Source reports Ellison’s new plan: he’ll be sworn in with the most patriotic goddamn Koran ever

Keith Ellison owes it to no one to “prove” that he’s a loyal, faithful, and patriotic American. Yes, he’s a Muslim (BTW, two Buddhists were elected as well) elected by his constituents in Minnesota to represent them in Congress. That no more makes him a threat to our security than it makes Glenn Beck or Virgil Goode threats for professing the same religion as Timothy McVeigh.

Ignorance and hatred of those who are different are time-honored American traditions, and there have always been, and will continue to be, those who are willing to exploit the ignorance and prejudice of others for their own advancement and self-aggrandizement. If Ellison using Thomas Jefferson’s Koran to take the Congressional oath of office doesn’t demonstrate his “American-ness”, I’m not sure what will.

I wish Keith Ellison nothing but success. Who knows? Perhaps in a few years and a few more of my fellow Buddhists…and moderate Muslims…elected to serve in Congress, we might actually get some work done, instead of trying to divisively exploit issues that just don’t matter. Taking care of the People’s business isn’t nearly as difficult as ignorant Republican ideologues and haters would have us think.
