Get...over...yourselves...already

Dixie Chicks still on the outs with country radio

NASHVILLE, Tenn. ‚Äö√Ñ√Æ Country radio still isn’t ready to make nice with the Dixie Chicks. With a haul of Grammys Sunday, the Texas trio topped their comeback from their 2003 Bush-bashing comment that turned them from superstars to pariahs ‚Äö√Ñ√Æ but Music Row isn’t welcoming them back into the country-music fold….”I think (the listeners) are outraged,” said Tony Lama, program director for KXNP in North Platte, Neb. “This is rural, conservative America. They are just disgusted.”

Can there be anything more ignorant and small-minded than Conservative small-town types who refuse to admit that they were wrong? That they backed the wrong horse? And that their sycophantic, unquestioning support of Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © has enabled one of the biggest clusterf—ks in this nation’s history? D’ya think small-town America could own up to their short-sighted, reactionary ignorance?

Nah, of course not….

In fact, if anything, it seems as if Conservative, small-town, small-minded America is even angrier than before. Yeah, it seems that being proven horribly wrong has done nothing to improve their collection disposition.

Country stations quit playing the Chicks in 2003 after singer Natalie Maines told a London audience: “Just so you know, we’re ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas.

Almost overnight, Maines became a lightning rod in the debate over the Iraq war, with conservatives blasting her for criticizing the president, especially while on foreign soil.

The Chicks sang about the controversy in their single, Not Ready to Make Nice which won Grammys as record and song of the year. Their album, Taking the Long Way won album of the year.

You know, if the trolls who run country radio stations and their angry, unforgiving listeners can’t see their way clear to give the Dixie Chicks their due, then that’s their loss. They’re missing one hell of an album. Seldom will you ever listen to an album with more passion and brilliant, inspired musicianship behind it.

Country radio may not be ready to embrace them again, but the Grammy runaway suggests that a significant portion of the rest of the country has come around to their way of thinking. The president’s approval ratings are down, and his party was ousted in the midterm elections.

“I’m slowly getting my faith back in mankind,” Maines said Sunday.

Unfortunately, there’s still a segment of the American populace that’s still angry with the Dixie Chicks and will likely remain so. I suppose being proved embarrassingly wrong will do that to a person who’s angry and inflexibly intolerant to begin with.

I will state for the record that I, too, am ashamed that the President is from Texas. I’m ashamed that the President is a liar, a thug, and a Christian xenophobe who views deception and propaganda as just a cost of doing business. And I’m ashamed that more than 54 millions Americans vote for this lying thug in 2004. YOU are responsible for the condition this country is in at this time. YOU had the opportunity to right the wrong done to this country in 2000. YOU blew it.

If Conservative, small-town America is going to be angry at anyone, they need to look in a mirror. The Dixie Chicks are not the problem. Your narrow, angry ignorance is the problem. Get over yourself already….
