Repeat after me: you cannot consider yourself oppressed if you're in the overwhelming majority.

U.S. Attorney General unveils ‘First Freedom Project’ at SBC Executive Committee meeting

New Dept of Justice program for the religious right

It’s designed to help spread the word that religious freedom is a-okay in America (because, being the good communist country we are, we need a propaganda campaign to ensure our “freedom”). Attorney General Gonzales is also urging Americans to come forward and report when their religious liberty is being curtailed. Great, I’ll go first. Where’s the form to report that Attorney General Gonzales and his boss, President Death and Incompetence, want to force the rest of us Christians (and otherwise) to live under laws, constitutional amendments, and executive branch policies written to conform with the Baptist faith?

There’s nothing in the world wrong with religious freedom. It should be de riguer, part and parcel of life here in America. What I cannot stomach, and refuse to abide, is the idea that Christians are somehow oppressed and marginalized by non-Believers and godless Liberals. Never mind the fact that survey after survey has conclusively demonstrated that an overwhelming percentage of Americans call themselves “Christians”. Apparently some of these folks still somehow see themselves as an oppressed minority, kept down by atheistic, godless Liberals and Democrats who want nothing more than to squeeze Jesus out of American life. (Hell, y’all have already kicked Jesus out of our public schools…and you’ll get my Bible when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers….)

Now the Justice Department is flogging a program apparently designed to ensure that good, God-fearing Christian Americans don’t have to worry about seeing their beliefs legislated out of existence…like that’s ever going to happen. What this really comes down to is the belief that not being allowed to enshrine their narrow, judgmental Christian ideology as the law of the land somehow qualifies as oppression and anti-Christian bigotry.

Silly me; I’d always believed that the federal government was supposed to represent the interests of ALL Americans. This Administration seems to have lost sight of that reality, to such a degree that no reasonable person could POSSIBLY think Christians are an oppressed special interest group…unless, of course, you’re one of those zealots who think that your beliefs trump all others, thus giving you the right to give your religious views the force of law.

Lord, save us from your followers….
