John Gibson Hypes A ‚Äö√Ñ√≤War on Easter’, Announces Easter Bunny Under Attack
As sure as April showers bring May flowers, so too does Fox News every year around this time announce that there is “a War on Easter.” Last year, Bill O’Reilly suggested the Easter bunny was “under attack.” After embarrassing himself and his colleagues, O’Reilly eventually acknowledged, “There is no attack on Easter.”….This year, John Gibson is carrying the “War on Easter” mantra, hailing it today as “an incredible development.” Gibson cited efforts by the city of Walnut Creek, California, to rebrand the Easter bunny as the “spring bunny.” “Is this political correctness gone too far”? Gibson wondered…. The truth is there is no “war” on Easter. Like the alleged “War on Christmas,” right-wing pundits stir such controversies in order to raise money and suggest that “secular progressives” are at war with Christianity.
Never let it be said that truth or reality ever gets in the way of a really good story at Fox News Channel. When DUMB@$$E$ like John Gibson can report with a straight face about “the war on the Easter Bunny” (what, were no Anna Nicole Smith stories available?), you know that someone has exited the realm of the sublime and taken a wrong turn on the way to the dominion of the ridiculous.
Facts? Who needs facts. OK, so the changes that Walnut Creek made occurred five years ago. Suddenly, this small California town finds itself in the crosshairs of an artificially-generated controversy that has no basis in reality or truth. If you measure newsworthiness on a 1-10 scale, this turkey doesn’t even got out of negative double digits. Yet Gibson and Fox News will continue flogging this dead horse (or bunny, in this case) until someone else picks it up and it becomes accepted in the Mainstream Media as “truth”.
Of course, stretching, massaging, even creating “truth” is no problem when you understand how Conservatives see Fox News Channel:
Fox News was started in 1996 in response to the other cable news channels which all had obvious liberal biases. Because of this, Rupert Murdoch decided to start a real new channel which would tell the truth. Fox News claims to be “Fair & Balanced”[1] a claim which it backs up by having shows like Hannity & Colmes. Fox News has enjoyed success over every other news channel.(Citation Needed) It has many people on it who work to spread truth such as Sean Hannity. Fox News tries to report the news in an unbiased manner and then allow the viewer to decide. [2].
Fox News has dominated the ratings of other cable news shows-many Fox News hosts believe this is because they show both sides of the issues and refuse to “pile on” George W. Bush or the Iraq War despite its popularity among liberal agents in the media. Frequently, Fox News will report on “good news” from Iraq, such as new schools being built and new roads being built-while putting the suicide bombings in context of the broader war on terrorism.
In 2005 the White House selected Tony Snow from Fox News to be the new White House press secretary.[3]
The station has come under vicious and repeated attacks from Liberals since its inception.[4]
The great thing about being a Conservative is that the truth is whatever you want it to be, whatever you can make it into, or- better yet- whatever Fox News Channel tells you it is.
John Gibson wouldn’t know the truth if it show up with a pair of kneepads and made a beeline for his zipper. “War on the Easter Bunny”?? Uh, isn’t there still a war going on in Iraq? Aren’t American still being shipped home from Iraq and Afghanistan in boxes? Yeah…but those god—-n atheistic zealots are threating Our Way of Life © …and thank God brave Conservative Chickenhawks like John Gibson are there to protect us good, God-fearing sheep-like Americans.
