The truth will set you free...as long as it's the right (no pun intended) truth

Former White House official defends editing of climate papers

WASHINGTON ‚Äö√Ñ√Æ A former White House official accused of improperly editing reports on global warming defended his editorial changes Monday as reflecting views expressed in a 2001 report by the National Academy of Sciences. House Democrats said the 181 changes made in three climate reports reflected a consistent attempt to emphasize uncertainties surrounding the science of climate change and undercut the broad conclusions that manmade emissions are warming the earth. Philip Cooney, former chief of staff at the White House Council on Environmental Quality, acknowledged at a House hearing that some of the changes he made were “to align these communications with the administration’s stated policy” on climate change.

I’m shocked…SHOCKED…that the Bush Administration is playing politicals with global warming. Gee, whodathunkit? And here’s something even more shocking…Philip Cooney left the White House to work for Exxon Mobil.

Well, OK…so there really isn’t anything shocking about this at all. In fact, if the past six-plus years have demonstrated anything, it’s that this sort of thing is really business as usual in BushWorld. 181 changes made in three climate reports, all for political reasons- to make certain the reports reflected BushWorld’s position on global climate change. Nice work if you can get it, eh??

That politics and science too often mix like oil and water hardly comes as a surprise. What DOES surprise me (though I don’t know why) is the degree that BushWorld political weenies will go to mold scientific findings to fit political exigency. BushWorld is not the first Administration to alter reality to more closely dovetail with policy and propaganda objectives, nor will they be the last. They are, without a doubt, the most shameless practitioners of matching science to prevailing propaganda requirements…and that’s not something one should proudly include on the resume.

Cooney is hardly the first, nor the last, BushWorld political hack guilty of creating a Right-wing version of the “truth”. Cooney is just one of a very few whose work has been identified. And these folks pilloried Bill Clinton for lying? Jeebus, these maroons couldn’t find the truth if you handed them a map, a flashlight, and a bag of bread crumbs to mark their path.

So, how’s that whole “restoring honor and dignity to the White House” thing working out for you?? Yes, Virginia, somewhere Josef Goebbels is smiling….

STILL GLAD YOU VOTED REPUBLICAN?
