What a sad coda on a sad chapter in our nation's history

Mayan Priests To Cleanse Ancient Temple After Bush Visit

Interesting how times have changed, eh? In 1998, then-President Bill Clinton was received in Latin American by enthusiastic throngs with open arms. Nine years later, Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © is received with the hatred, the vitriol, and the disdain normally reserved for someone regarded as the living incarnation of Satan. This is what we’ve come to, America. I’ve travelled overseas enough to understand that Americans never have been and never will be universally loved, but never can I recall my Homeland and it’s President being so thoroughly reviled as it is now.

The truly sad thing is that Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © has only himself to blame for this state of affairs. During the 2000 campaign, Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © played to Hispanic voters by promising to make Latin America one of the priorities of a Bush Administration. Like so many other promises, not only did this one never get off the ground, it was likely forgotten as soon as the stage on which it had been made was struck. And then came 9.11, which provided him with the perfect excuse for forgetting every campaign promise so he could focus all of his energy and the war in Iraq he and his fellow neoConservative thugs wanted so desperately.

This is a President whose legacy may well include being known as the most venal, corrupt, inept President in this nation’s history- no mean feat given some of the jackasses that have inhabited the Oval Office. He’ll claim to have prosecuted the war on terror, but the war was in Afghanistan, where the Taliban and al Qaeda leadership took refuge, not in Iraq. Yes, Iraq had Saddam Hussein- a bad man, to be sure- and oil- a good thing. What Iraq did NOT have- until Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © illegal and immoral war of aggression created it- was a documented terrorist threat. Yes, we’re now heavily engaged in trying to put down our self-created terrorist threat. Nice going, eh? You just gotta love American ingenuity….

When you begin to wonder why America generally and Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © specifically are almost universally hated, you can look at what’s happening in Iraq. American foreign policy as personified by Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © has demonstrated that, as the world’s last remaining superpower, it’s all too willing to subjugate lesser nations to it’s will. Hey, it’s one of the fringe benefits of being the world’s moral policeman, don’tchaknow??

STILL GLAD YOU VOTED REPUBLICAN??
