Because REAL Americans don't ask questions

Tom DeLay: Reid And Pelosi Are ‚Äö√Ñ√≤Very, Very Close To Treason’

In an interview with the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review editorial board yesterday, former Rep. Tom DeLay (R-TX) accused Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) of “getting very, very close to treason” by opposing the war in Iraq. When a member of the editorial board noted that treason is a “pretty serious charge,” DeLay shot back, “And I’m serious about it.” He added that he had looked up the definition on his way to the interview (probably a good idea), and it meant “the betrayal of trust.”

Interesting, isn’t it? Tom DeLay and his fellow knuckle-dragging zealots are free to behave badly, engage in name-calling, and question the patriotism of Democrats…but just let a Democrat voice an honest, heart-felt opinion and watch what happens.

There was nothing un-American or unpatriotic about Harry Reid saying the war in Iraq was lost. All he was doing was quoting Gen. David Petraeus, who own argument is that success in Iraq is only 20% military, with the remainder of necessity being political and economic.

Nancy Pelosi’s biggest “crime” has been demanding accountabilty. For the first six years of Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader’s © reign of error, Congress was little more than a Republican-controlled rubber stamp. What The Worst President EVER © wanted, he got- no questions asked. Now, though, with Democrats in control of both houses of Congress, questions that should have been asked long ago, and all leaders like Reid and Pelosi are asking for is accountability. If we’re going to be asked to sacrifice our sons and daughters in a far-off land, why SHOULDN’T we be able to expect accountability. Why should Democrats be able to question the ineptitude and inefficiency with which the war in Iraq has been conducted?

Of course, one should never underestimate the hypocrisy of a Chickenhawk like DeLay. When a Republican President is in charge of a war, it’s a manner of national honor deserving of our unqualified and unquestioning support. When a Democratic President is in the same position…well, here’s DeLay from 1999, talking about the war in Kosovo:

“[Milosevic is] stronger in Kosovo now than he was before the bombing. ‚Äö√Ѭ∂ The Serbian people are rallying around him like never before. He’s much stronger with his allies, Russians and others.” Clinton “has no plan for the end” and “recognizes that Milosevic will still be in power,” added DeLay. “The bombing was a mistake. ‚Äö√Ѭ∂ And this president ought to show some leadership and admit it, and come to some sort of negotiated end.”….

“I cannot support a failed foreign policy. ‚Äö√Ѭ∂ President Clinton has never explained to the American people why he was involving the US military in a civil war in a sovereign nation, other than to say it is for humanitarian reasons, a new military-foreign policy precedent. Was it worth it to stay in Vietnam to save face? What good has been accomplished so far? Absolutely nothing.”

My how things have changed…or not. DeLay, who has a long and storied history of attacking the patriotism of those of us on the Left hasn’t changed his stripes now that his own corruption and venality has forced him out of office. It’s patriotic to attack a Democratic President leading this country in a time of war, but doing the same thing to a Republican President is the height of America-hating, unAmerican political opportunism.

Jeebus, what a (&^%$#@ hypocrite and DUMB@$$….
