'Tis better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt

Evil Korean Also Democrat, Communist, Terrorist

The Korean Shooter Was A Democrat And A Terrorist

I decline to politicize the tragic events that happened at Virginia Tech on Monday. Even though Virginia Tech had already banned students and faculty from carrying guns, the gun control nazis are busy warming up the PR spin machine to turn this tragedy into yet another call for more better gun control. Indeed before the dust had even settled on Monday I had already received hate mail about it.I had thought about crafting a well thought out and reasoned response to such calls. But in the end I decided to just let it be. (I would recommend reading James Taranto (second article) however.)

One of the things I’ve feared from Monday’s massacre at Virginia Tech is slowly but surely coming to pass. As more and more information has become available about the shooter and his motives, more and more people are showing that they perfectly willing to use this tragedy to pursue their pet political agenda. The 33 bodies haven’t even begun to be laid to rest, and yet how many calls from the gun lobby (and frankly, from gun nuts) have insisted that the tragedy in Blacksburg could have prevented. IF ONLY EVERYONE WAS PERMITTED- NAY, REQUIRED- TO ARM THEMSELVES, THIS TRAGEDY COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED!! Verily, for only by turning our campuses into free-fire zones will we have any hope of preventing future massacres such as what happened at Virginia Tech. I’m going to stifle my revulsion and my desire to retaliate in kind…because I know it would accomplish little of any value. No, better to merely ignore the troglodytes.

Thankfully, there are a few gun rights advocates who still have a functional grip on reality and a little a minimal remaining degree of human decency….

Steve was one of my first readers, and over the years we’ve bantered back and forth over numerous issues. We seldom see eye to eye on much, but I rather enjoy that. If everyone though like me, TPRS wouldn’t be nearly as much fun. Steve’s also a Virginia Tech alum, so you know he’s got to be hurting. He’s a strong guns rights advocate, and yet even he recognizes that simple human decency would seem to dictate that everyone just back off and calm down. There will be plenty of time down the road for people to grind their axes. Right now, though, there are a lot of people hurting. How about we all just let them grieve before we exercise our right to free, unedited, and astoundingly ignorant speech?

Unfortunately, there are more than a few people out there who’ve already made their minds up, and said minds are now closed tighter than Aunt Wilma’s chastity belt. No sooner had words of condolences escaped Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader’s © lips than he was defending the Second Amendment and the inalienable rights of Americans to bear arms. ‘Cuz Lord knows he wouldn’t want to piss off the gun lobby and the NRA….

How about we just keep our powder dry and let people grieve and try to pick up the pieces? There will be plenty of time in the future to maneuver for political advantage. All doing so now does is reveal you to be a clueless, insensitive, knuckle-dragger willing to use the tragic deaths of others to pursue your own political agenda. How about showing some class and restraint for once??
