Finally, a Republican with a pair....

Former Bush Admin Official Speaks Impeachment. Wilkerson: Bush’s “Crimes” Make Clinton’s “Peccadilloes” “Pale in Comparison”.

MY NEW HERO #74: Larry Wilkerson

Larry Wilkerson, an aide to former Secretary of State Colin Powell, said in a radio interview on Thursday that the “high crimes and misdemeanors” of the Bush Administration make the offenses for which President Bill Clinton was impeached “pale in comparison.”… Speaking in an interview to NPR’s On Point, Wilkerson said: “The language in that article, the language in those two or three lines about impeachment is nice and precise -‚Äö√Ñ√¨ it’s high crimes and misdemeanors. You compare Bill Clinton’s peccadilloes for which he was impeached to George Bush’s high crimes and misdemeanors or Dick Cheney’s high crimes and misdemeanors, and I think they pale in significance.”…. Wilkerson has previously described Powell’s presentation to the United Nations as “the lowest point in my life.”

It would be difficult to understate the contempt I feel for self-righteous Republicans willing to impeach a sitting President for getting blown by an intern, yet willing to sit on their hands while his successor lies, cheats, and propagandizes his way into an illegal and immoral war. So, which is the biggest crime- getting the Presidential helmet polished, or purchasing the deaths of thousands of dedicated young Americans with lies and propaganda? If you have to even THINK about the answer to that question, you’ve been swallowing the Party line whole and without question for far too long now.

I don’t know Larry Wilkerson from Lindsay Lohan, and I’m really not all that interested in him. What I do admire, though, is that a former member of BushWorld is willing to violate the Administration’s code of Omert‚àö‚Ć. Wilkerson is the first, and so far only, former Bushie willing to speak the truth to power- which only goes to prove what a stranglehold Karl Rove and his stormtroopers have on Republicans in Washington.

In case you’re wondering who Larry Wilkerson is, it’s not like he a Regent University graduate working in BushWorld because he believes that Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © was chosen by God to and charged with turning the federal government into a functional theocracy.

Finally, someone who’s stopped drinking the KoolAid and can admit to what’s been going on in BushWorld. It’s about damn time, eh?

Wilkerson is a Retired Army Colonel, Chief of Staff under Secretary of State Colin Powell from 2002 to 2005, Vietnam War veteran, former Acting Director of the Marine Corps War College at Quantico, and currently a teacher of national security at William and Mary College.

It’s refreshing to see that someone, even a refugee from BushWorld, is willing to tell the truth about what happened. The sad thing is that more people aren’t. It’s not as if the reality that we’ve been lied to for more than four years now is any big secret. Few who possess even a minimum of intellectual honesty will deny that Iraq is a clusterf—k and that it was purchased with lies, deception, and propaganda.

Perhaps Wilkerson’s moral courage will convince a few more angry former True Believers to come forward and admit to the truth of what’s been done in our name. Democrats and anti-war activists can scream and demand the impeachment of The Worst President EVER © all we want. It will be only so much Sturm und Drang until Republicans and former True Believers come out of their protective shells and their denial to demand impeachment. Perhaps Larry Wilkerson is a signal that we’re headed in that direction; perhaps not. Nonetheless, it’s still a step in the right direction.
