One of the biggest fallacies out there- I hear it all the time- is that there’s really very little difference between Democrats and Republicans. To me, this contention only proves how little those who seriously voice this opinion are really paying attention. To hold that Democrats and Republicans are really only two sides of the same coin is tantamount to saying that there really isn’t any discernible difference between cannibals and vegetarians. Well, yeah, both of them DO have to eat….
For those of you not convinced of the basic differences between Republicans and Democrats, you need look no further than the two most recent Presidents. Hmm…let’s see…eight years of relative peace and prosperity under Bill Clinton, or the six years and counting of war, recrimination, and theocratic excess of Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © ? OK, so throwing 9.11 into the equation makes it a bit of an apples-and-oranges comparison, but does anyone honestly think Bill Clinton would’ve been agitating for a war against Iraq when the post-9.11 terrorist presence was clearly in Afghanistan? Would Clinton have been working to creating a dominionist theocracy bent on enforcing the American version of democracry and Christianity on the rest of the world. Would Clinton have lied and propagandized his way to achieving his policy goals?
If you answered “yes” to even one of those questions, you’d best just turn in your voter registration card right now, because you clearly don’t have a clue. I’m not about to claim that Democrats have a monopoly on virtue and decency, but if the last six-plus years haven’t soured you on Republican ideology/theology, you simply haven’t been paying attention.
Hmm…let’s review…Bill Clinton and Al Gore vs. Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © and Dick Cheney? If you have to consider that question for more than a nanosecond, you’re in more trouble that even I could have imagined. Why not just beat the rush and move to Utah now? You’ll like it there- a place where the willful, rampant ignorance of reality is more than just a good idea. It seems to be an unwritten law.
