Which is a bigger crime: a stained blue dress, or 3,500+ wasted American lives?

Former Senate Intel Chairman Graham: The Case For Impeachment ‚Äö√Ñ√≤Is Even More Truthful Today’

MY NEW HERO #76: Sen. Bob Graham (D-FL)

Former Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Bob Graham (D-FL) was one of 23 Senators to have voted against the Iraq war resolution in October 2002. “With sadness,” he told his colleagues, “I predict we will live to regret this day, Oct. 10, 2002, the day we stood by and we allowed these terrorist organizations to continue growing in the shadows.”…. Just four months after Bush launched the Iraq war, Graham floated the idea of impeachment. “Clearly, if the standard is now what the House of Representatives did in the impeachment of Bill Clinton, the actions of this president [are] much more serious in terms of dereliction of duty,” he said.

“Impeachment” is a word that carries a good deal of symoblism for Americans. For many, it smacks of the sort of banana-republic instability that’s the hallmark of so much of the rest of the world. Violent, bloody revolution; political instability; social and economic upheaval are issues that we in this country have thankfully been spared during our history.

There are also those who fear the political “tit for tat” prospects presented by the impeachment concept. When the party in power changes, do they as a matter of course look to impeach the country’s political leadership if it’s from the opposing party?

We’ve been blessed thus far in our history in that neither of those two scenarios have come to pass. Nevertheless, impeachment is a process available to rectify a situation in which an elected leader, in this case the President has egregiously abused his power. Let me see if I understand this corrrectly: getting a blowjob from a White House intern in the Oval Office…or lying and propaganidizing your way into an immoral and illegal war that has so far wasted over 3,500 young Americans lives? (I can hear the Freepers now: “Well, at least Bush didn’t get blown by an intern….”)

Of course Graham knows that he’s fighting an uphill battle, but at least he’s willing to entertain doing the right thing- which is more than most Congressional Democrats are willing to consider.

How many Americans would say that it is a greater dereliction of duty as President of the United States to have a consensual sexual affair or to take the country to war under manipulated, fabricated, and largely untruthful representations which the President knew or should have known. I think the answer to that question is clear.

It is…and yet the Democratic leadership in Congress will never travel down that road. They’ll allow Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © to conduct his clusterf—k of a war in Iraq. They’ll allow him to have his way in what has long since become this generation’s Vietnam. Someone smarter than me will have to explain the logic and the complete lack of moral courage at work here.

WE DESERVE BETTER.
