Another DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener

Wife-Beating Politican of the Day

Sometimes “family values” means kicking your wife’s ass

Lawmaker to use battered husband defense

Court case resumes against state lawmaker charged with domestic assault

DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener #620: MN Rep. Mark Olson (R-@$$wipe)

Today’s violent Republican is Mark Olson of the Minnesota State House. And yes, there are fifty other guys named “Mark Olson” in the Minnesota State House, but this is the crazy-eyed one. Showing typical midwestern politeness, he waited until after the elections to beat up on his wife, bruising her on Sunday and appearing in court this morning to not answer the charges. Olson refused to enter a plea, because he did it, but it would inappropriate to say as much. Olson’s wife says he “pushed her to the ground three times,” while Olson admits only to “placing her to the ground.” As we said, they’re very polite up there.

Ah, yes…another Bible-thumping Republican, caught demonstrating that he’s no more “holier-than-thou” than any other garden variety moral reprobate. He beats his wife, then claims that his wife has physically abused him, and the decides to use the “battered husband” defense. Now, I don’t know all of the details here, nor do I particularly want to. Nonetheless, I have a difficult time understanding why violence has to be part of the picture. Whatever happened to anger management- or simply walking away? I assume that, since Olson and his wife are married, these two loved each other enough at one time that they decided they wanted to spend their lives together. So why must they now use each other as punching bags…if that’s in fact what’s happening here?

Surely, Mark Olson must realize that as a public figure, he’s going to (rightly or wrongly) be held to a standard different from everyday Minnesotans. It’s not that people expect him to be better or different, but they certainly don’t expect their elected representatives to be wife-beating reprobates and DUMB@$$E$.

I admit that your wife tells a very compelling story. It’s easy to feel compassion for her when she tells of how you threw your Bible at her, knocked her over a bookcase, and bodyslammed her onto your bed bashing her head against the floor in the process.

Worse yet, it’s hard not to take her side when she talks about the events of November 12, 2006. The jury at your trial will surely feel sorry for her when she relates how angry you became when she objected to you bullying her 12-year-old autistic son during a Monopoly game, so angry, she will testify, that you slammed her to the floor three times.

After hearing that, the jury is certain to think you’re a monster. And who can blame them. Her account of the events will portray you as one.

But as I said before. You will not be alone. The Lord will be there with you when you rebut her testimony. He’ll soften their hearts and they will believe that it is you who is the real victim, a man who lived in terror of his brutal wife.

Right; Olson will need the Lord to be on his side when his wife’s attorney portrays him as an intolerant religious zealot and an inveterate wife-beater who demanded that his wife submit to his will. Hey, I don’t know the truth of what happened. There are only two people who truly do. Nonetheless, Olson’s trial ought to provide many hours of salacious entertainment.

How ‘bout dem “fam-i-lee valyoos” now, eh??
