Richardson aide out after brothel revelation
LAS VEGAS (AP) ‚Äö√Ñ√Æ One of Democratic presidential candidate Bill Richardson’s top organizers in rural Nevada resigned Thursday after the campaign learned he had worked for a brothel and was wanted on a felony arrest warrant in California…. “We did not know about all of this,” Richardson spokesman Josh McNeil said after the staffer’s record was brought to the campaign’s attention by the Associated Press. “We accepted his resignation today.”…. Kristian Forland, the campaign’s eastern Nevada field director, is being sought by Los Angeles County authorities for failure to appear on four counts of writing bad checks. Forland also was arrested twice, once last year and again last month, in his home of Elko, Nev., on a similar bad check charge out of Las Vegas. In both arrests, Forland posted bail and was released. It’s not clear from court records if the case was resolved.
Let it never be said that I reserve my finely-honely rapier wit and ridicule for Republicans. True, it seems as if Republicans are more prone to having dark secrets, but there are certainly no lack of Democrats out there ready, willing, and more than able to display their DUMB@$$ bonafides. Our latest DUMB@$$ is no doubt leaving Bill Richardson with a fair bit of egg on his face. Personally, I don’t care if you bugger goats in your spare time. I’m a “live and let live” sort of person, but in politics there’s no such thing as live and let live. It’s kill or be killed…so when you or anyone even tangentially associated with your campaign is busted for an inability to keep his zipper in the locked and upright position…well, let the fun begin, eh?
The beautiful thing about this is that it doesn’t even matter if Forland’s case was resolved. He was arrested for a sex crime, which in the hypocritically staid world of politics is the next best thing to a conviction. When it comes to this sort of thing, in a political sense one is guilty…and who really cares if one is later proven innocent? That news will be buried on page 9 somewhere- if it’s even mentioned at all.
Memo to Bill Richardson (and other Presidential candidates): two words- BACKGROUND CHECKS. Or do you really enjoy not knowing what the particular crimes, predilections, and/or perversions of those in charge of your campaign are? Then again, it IS kinda fun wondering just where the next embarrassing revelation will break out, isn’t it?
