Your tax dollars at work...or not....

FEDS’ PORN ULTIMATUM

The Department of Justice wants to come up with an official list of every porn star in America - and slap stiff penalties on producers who don’t cooperate. The new rules, proposed under the Adam Walsh Child Safety and Protection Act, would require blue-movie makers to keep photos, stage names, professional names, maiden names, aliases, nicknames and ages on file for the inspection of the department’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section…. “The identity of every performer is critical to determining and ensuring that no performer is a minor,” according to the new proposal.

Hmm…let me see if I have this straight. Fundamentalist Islamic nutjobs are bent on killing us because they hate our freedoms and our Blue Bell ice cream (yummm…Key Lime Pie)…yet the Department of Justice is still finding new and different ways to harrass the porn industry? Yeah, if ya’ll needed any more evidence that the federal bureaucracy is in thrall to dominionist theocrats…well, here’s your sign, eh?

I’m not one to be supporting the porn industry, but I also don’t see what the overriding threat to Our Way of Life is represented by bad movies with lousy scripts, no costume budgets, and the choreographed exchanges of bodily fluids? It’s not as if Jenna Jameson is part of some secret al-Qaeda sleeper cell, simply waiting for the word from Osama bin-Laden before she flies a plane (while naked and in flagrante delicto, I’m assuming) into the Sears Tower. No, more likely that some unreconstructed born-again zealot at DoJ is patting themselves on the back for coming up with yet another creative way to harrass and attempt to shut down an industry they’re morally opposed to.

STILL GLAD YOU VOTED REPUBLICAN??

Hey, here’s a simple solution…if you don’t like porn, DON’T WATCH IT! Watching choreographed copulation may not be your cup of tea, but there actually is a demand for this sort of thing. As long as the industry is respecting the laws currently on the books, they should be treated no differently from any other industry. You may not agree with the work these folks produce, you may even be morally opposed to it, but this is still a free country, and the producers of porn are still guaranteed the right to free speech and expression. Yes, as I’ve said many times before (and will no doubt repeat again ad infinitum, ad nauseum), free speech can be and quite often is offensive, reprehensible speech. You don’t have to watch or listen to it, and you can choose not to partake in it, but you have no right to censor it. Period. End of story. Any questions?

Now, can we all get back to obsessing over those who actually ARE trying to destroy Our Way of Life?? Oh, and while you’re at it, can y’all just drop the “It’s all about protecting children” crap…’cuz anyone with a functional intellect knows that’s a poorly-justified, self-serving smokescreen. Thank you. That will be all.
