Hardee’s unveils 920-calorie burrito

Hardee’s unveils “two egg omelets filled with bacon, sausage, diced ham, cheddar cheese, hash browns and sausage gravy” breakfast burrito. For an extra quarter, they will deep fry the bag for you

ST. LOUIS - The people who brought you the Monster Thickburger and the 1,100-calorie salad are at it again ‚Äö√Ñ√Æ this time for breakfast. Hardee’s on Monday rolled out its new Country Breakfast Burrito ‚Äö√Ñ√Æ two egg omelets filled with bacon, sausage, diced ham, cheddar cheese, hash browns and sausage gravy, all wrapped inside a flour tortilla. The burrito contains 920 calories and 60 grams of fat.

My God, I LOVE this country! Where else would a fast food chain entice their target emographic to dig their graves with their teeth? On the one hand, I have to admire Hardee’s for having the chutzpah to come out with a breakfast burrito guaranteed to clog more than a few major arteries. On the other hand, if Hardee’s induces heart attacks in enough customers, it’s going to eventually hit their bottom line, right? OK, so I don’t expect Hardee’s to be peddling heart-healthy salads (1100 calories? Of course it’s healthy…IT’S A SALAD!!!), but at some point shouldn’t a company accept some degree of responsibility for the well-being of it’s customers? After all, you can’t buy a Monster Thickburger if you’re hooked up to a heart monitor and an IV drip.

If you sit in the parking lot outside a Hardee’s and watch people walk in and out, you’ll understand why no one would ever confuse a Hardee’s with a 24-Hour Fitness location. It’s Middle American comfort food…and lots of it. This is food for people who want to DIE LIKE A MAN! I can’t help but wonder, though…do the folks at Hardee’s ever feel anything resembling pangs of conscience for selling some of the unhealthiest fast food on the face of the planet?

Then again, a social conscience is for those who don’t have to answer to stockholders…and no one’s putting a gun to anyone’s head and forcing them to order the 1100-calorie salad.
