Pornified: It ain’t just on Halloween
Ah, Halloween…that one day every year when we turn basic Christian goodness on it’s head and celebrate all sick and evil. What could be better and more enjoyable that allowing our children to neglect the teaching of Jesus Christ that we pound into their skulls 24/7/365 and focus on the simple joys of murder rape, and other assorted mayhem?
I’ve always been very amused by the concept of Halloween. The holiday has never been a big deal for me- I stopped trick-or-treating when I was 12. Never being a big candy eater, I discovered that Halloween that I still had a significant amount of candy left over from the previous year’s collection. It just seemed rather pointless to keep collecting candy when I really had little interest in eating. Oh, and dressing up suddenly seemed rather silly and pointless…which only goes to show that even at an early age I was willing to ignore the meaning and symoblism of Halloween. Still, while the whole “celebration of evil” thing is merely my little joke, it never ceases to amaze me that parents, many of whom normally have their children in Sunday School every week dress their children as something they would never countenance the other 364 days of the year.
Ah, well..it’s all harmless fun, right? After all, it could be worse; we could be in Detroit, where last night’s annual “Hell Night” involves the ritual burning of abandoned houses. Ah, a good time was had by all….
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got to grind up some glass and buy some fake blood….
