Today's sign that the Apocalypse is upon us

Ron Paul: Sexiest Presidential Candidate

Earlier this week, we asked you to come out and vote for the sexiest presidential candidate. And vote you did. The polls have closed, the votes have been tallied, and your choice for the sexiest candidate in the 2008 election was… Ron Paul.

What does it say about our society (never mind our political maturity) when a septugenarian Republican grandfather can in all seriousness be described as “sexy”? Yeah, Ron Paul may be the most intriguing candidate in a decidedly weak field of Republicans, but there’s no getting around the reality that the man is “out there”…WAY “out there”. This is a candidate who in all seriousness believes that America should return to the gold standard…thereby taking a significant portion of the economy down for the count. I could go into detail as to why Ron Paul is a BAD idea, but I know that there are many among my readers who would take me to task for that. Besides, if you’ve been hanging around these parts for any length of time at all, you already know how I feel about Ron Paul. Bad, bad, BAD idea….

What I find truly amazing is that Paul has a significant base of support among young Americans…most of whom probably know next to nothing about what he actually stands for [see Anderson, John (1980)]. There’s a reason why the GOP is treating him like the crazy uncle they’d rather keep in the basement. He IS the crazy uncle. Of course, he’s a crazy uncle with a ton of money at his disposal. Even though the polls continue to show Paul as little more than an afterthought, the millions that he’s collected are coming from somewhere.

Quick…can anyone (besides Bob) tell me what Ron Paul stands for?

The restoration of Privacy and Personal Liberty, both of which vanished with the Patriot Act.

over to you, Bob . .

Government that works for the people, instead of the other way around.

These "kids" seem to be pretty well informed about what Ron Paul stands for.

So Ron Paul is a Democrat, I assume.

Dennis, do you mean the "democrats" that voted for the Patriot Act without reading it first?

Since Jack want to hear from other folks than me, I figured I'd find some additional vids with original music and lyrics. To compose these things usually requires a pretty decent knowledge of the message.

We're limited to one link per post, so my apologies for the number of comments...

I think there are more hip-hop vids out there than others, but Country Fans shouldn't feel left out.

Any Sinatra fans out there?

And for the Pop Rock crowd...

And of course, there's Reggae Ron!

It would appear I've struck a nerve.... ;o)

My "Kid" son had some advice for me as I was reviewing the blogs last night that politely demonstrated to me my ignorance.

Dad, don't even bother reading those empty opinion blogs if they claim they don't want to bore you with details. They can document text so that when you click on it the BACK UP MATERIAL appears. Gee! And he's .... you know ... one of those "knows next to nothing young Americans".

He sure has the pseudo-elite moron blowhard shills like you figured out.

Thanks, AnotherBob...yep, there's nothing like a bit of pointless name-calling to elevate the level of any debate! Thanks for playing!! ;o)

Yes, but can he win votes? It takes winning some - "some" having the same meaning, more or less, as the word "shitload" - primaries to become the nominee, and then it requires winning electoral votes state by state. 270 electoral votes, to be exactly.

Does anyone seriously expect any of that to happen?

And can someone explain how a President Ron Paul (I'll go along with the joke for the sake of discussion and the sheer entertainment value) gets a majority of Congress to accede to his wishes? Passing legislation requires having working majorities in both houses. Dr. Paul was routinely ignored for year and years and years by even his conservative Republican brethren (and cistern) in the House. Does he believe they will support him now?

Don't get me wrong - I supported John Anderson, worked the polls, went door to door. But he was a far more credible candidate than Dr. Paul will ever be.

John Anderson?!?!? That's a shocker.

I think runs like his are why Ron Paul is reluctant to even consider going independent despite being "asked" about it frequently. If it does come to that I hope he hangs in the republican primary long enough to have lasting impact.

As for the very hypothetical (I'm realistic) Ron Paul presidency, we could provide health care for every poor kid in the country with the money we waste on the ONCDP, DEA, ATF, DHS, and FEMA, all of which could be nuked/restructured without the cooperation of congress. You're quite correct that other things would be more interesting.

I reckon they could impeach him, but this crew of congress critters doesn't seem to be very good at that kinda stuff.

Hi Bob - yes, John Anderson - and he was a Republican congressman who couldn't find a footing in his own party, just like Dr. Paul. My memory is faint, at times incredibly so, but I believe he either won or came in second in the Michigan open primaries that year.

I worked in government for nearly 30 years, have a college major in political science. But 'm at a loss as to how one nukes/restructures programs like DEA, ATF DHS and FEMA, all of which were specifically created by legislation passed by Congress, without the cooperation of Congress. Something having to do with constitutional law might stop that - and I thought abiding by the constitution was Dr. Paul's strong suit. Perhaps if Dr. Paul were to set himself up as king that might work. But we've tried that lately and the results are in.

I do agree with him on the war and a whole lot of other issues. It's when he starts talkign about the Federal Reserve and the gold standard and not having needed to fight the Civil War and how 95% of all blacks are criminals and how the income tax is illegal that I think he loses most people (except in the 14th CD, obviously) Imagine what would happen if he had some actual public exposure.

But I have to correct myself - he can always return to the House, evidently he has no serious opposition down here in this district in November. Apparently they love him in Santa Fe and Victoria.

And those folks deserve him.

You're right Dennis, "curtail" or "influence" would have been a better choice of words than nuke/restructure.
