Because hatred doesn't do much for a company's stock price

What the boycott of McDonald's IS about. It is about McDonald's, as a corporation, refusing to remain neutral in the culture wars. McDonald's has chosen not to remain neutral but to give the full weight of their corporation to promoting the homosexual agenda, including homosexual marriage.

I'm no fan of McDonald's, and I'm normally loathe to defend them...about anything. Still, even I have to admit that the American Family Association (and no, I'm not about to link to them) is way out of line on this one.

Yes, the trolls at AFA are free to think as they see fit and militate for whatever intolerant, brain-dead idea happens to pop into their pointy li'l haids. Likewise, I'm also free to ridicule them for being the intolerant, brain-dead, self-righteous trolls they are. McDonalds (and, indeed, any business) is in business to make a profit. We can hope that they would do the right things for the right reasons, and I suppose in most cases they probably do, but they're trying to make a buck. It's what their shareholders expect of them. A business has the best chance of maximizing profits by appealing to the widest customer base possible. What incentive, then, does McDonald's (or any business) have in being divisive and discriminating against people whose money is the same color as those AFA finds more "acceptable"? Gays have money. Gays spend money...and what's in their wallets is every bit as green and legal tender as what's in yours or mine. So what incentive does McDonald's have for discriminating against the homosexual community, most of whom just want to be left alone to live their life as they see fit?

AFA has an unfortunate habit of silly and offensive boycotts directed against businesses that don't happen to share their narrow, hate-filled worldview. It's cheap publicity, and it gets the group some undeserved attention, but what does it really accomplish? While I'm not exactly a big fan (much less a customer) of some of the businesses AFA has targeted, the brand of hate and ignorance pedaled by these maroons is ludicrous. If you refuse to buy a Ford simply because the company advertises in "gay-friendly" publications...well, rest assured there's a special place in Hell for brain-dead souls like you...with a reserved parking spot.

To their credit, most of the American Sheeple at least possess the wherewithal to recognize that AFA's boycotts are silly, pointless, and have nothing at all to do with...well, anything, really. I refuse to spend my money at McDonald's because they serve bad, unhealthy food. I refuse to shop at WalMart because of their miserable, oppressive business practices and the often inhuman way in which they treat their employees. The fact that WalMart sells Brokeback Mountain DVDs is a non-issue.

Instead of expending so much time and energy trying to figure out how to give voice to their apparently boundless hatred for those who think, live, and love differently than they do, perhaps the trolls at AFA might try cracking their Bibles now and again? Even with my limited Sunday School training, I seem to recall something about Christian charity which seems in disturbingly short supply here. Then again, without hatred and ignorance, some of these folks would have absolutely nothing to live for.

Man, those scabs on their knuckles have GOT to hurt....
