How stupid do you have to be? Yes...apparently this stupid.

Faced with polling that shows about one in 10 Americans thinks Obama is Muslim, the candidate's campaign has launched an aggressive effort to discredit rumors and clarify Obama's past. It created a "Fight the Smears" Web site and a new television ad that reiterates Obama's Christian faith, patriotism and family background. Dozens of volunteers have been sent to Ohio five months in advance of the election so they can spend extra time educating voters.... "I'll admit that I probably don't follow all of the election news like maybe I should," [Jim] Peterman said. "I haven't read his books or studied up more than a little bit. But it's hard to ignore what you hear when everybody you know is saying it. These are good people, smart people, so can they really all be wrong?"

All right, y'all...let's get something straight at the outset here, shall we? If you are (&^%$#@ stupid enough to sincerely believe that Sen. Barack Obama is a Muslim, would you PLEASE just plan on not voting in November? I'm not trying to deny your right to vote, but if you can't be bothered to make an informed decision, and if your vote will be predicated on whatever lies and propaganda you happen to be willing to unquestioningly swallow, you're not going to be doing yourself or your country any good by voting. In fact, if the past eight years have demonstrated anything, it's that this sort of voting ignorance results in sheeple voting against their own interests.

Somewhere, Josef Goebbels is smiling....

These are not "good people, smart people" we're talking about. These are people who are frankly too (&^%$#@ stupid to think for themselves and make informed decisions. Then again, if you believe that Sen. Obama is a Muslim, "smart" is probably anyone who can speak in complete sentences without dragging their knuckles. No, not only are we not talking about "good" or "smart" people here, we're talking about people who can't be bothered to think independently and who think that if it's on the Internet...well, then it MUST be true.

I'm really not trying to denigrate anyone's beliefs, but come on, y'all...get a grip, willya? Not wearing a flag pin doesn't make Obama an America-hating Librul. Not putting his hand over heart during the National Anthem doesn't make him a terrorist sympathizer. And the fact that his middle name is "Hussein" doesn't make him a Muslim. Even if he were a Muslim, how would that automatically disqualify him from being President? Show me where it says that a President must be a practicing Christian? Whatever happened to freedom of religion?

For the purpose of this discussion, I really don't much care who you vote for- just PLEASE THINK ABOUT YOUR VOTE. Weigh the available information, carefully consider which candidate most closely reflects and represents your values, and vote accordingly. Perhaps if more sheeple had actually exercised a few brain cells during the past two Presidential election cycles, we could have avoided the travesty and tragedy of the past eight years. And perhaps the 4100+ Americans who have been sacrificed in a pointless and immoral war in Iraq would still be walking among us today. Conversely, if you can't be bothered to think, and if you're willing to believe the worst, most egregious propaganda out there, could you please just stay home on November 4th? Your country will thank you.
