Sometime you really have wonder at what cost some are willing to see their political ideology advanced. To liberal documentary filmmaker Michael Moore, the bounds are seemingly endless. Moore has made a recent career out of attacking President George W. Bush, bashing conservatives and criticizing business. His latest outrage occurred on MSNBC's August 29 "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" and when he commented about the coincidental timing of an unfortunate disaster - the potential for Hurricane Gustav to make landfall at the beginning of the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn. "I was just thinking, this Gustav is proof that there is a God in heaven," Moore said, laughing. "To have it planned at the same time - that it would actually be on its way to New Orleans for day one of the Republican Convention, up in the Twin Cities - at the top of the Mississippi River."
Don't get me wrong: I'm a huge Michael Moore fan (I still miss TV Nation), but the interview he did with Keith Olbermann on Friday was an absolute, flat-out embarrassment. You could almost feel Olbermann trying to save Moore from himself, but Moore would have none of it. Even though what he said about Hurricane Gustav may have been meant in jest, it came across as horribly self-righteous and mean-spirited.
Congratulations, dumbass; you just succeeded in confirming every propaganda point that the Far Right has ever put forward about you. Nice work; in less than five minutes, you completely shredded whatever credibility you may have once had about anything. All you managed to do was to supply loons like Bill O'Reilly with a wealth of material to use against you...and the rest of us who proudly call ourselves Liberals and Progressives. Now they can cut up this interview, and use it as propaganda to demonstrate and "prove" what a out of touch Left-wing loon you are...and in this case- as much as I hate to admit it- there's absolutely no justification I can find for defending you.
In this case the wingnuts can hoist you on your own petard...and leave you there, flapping in the breeze for all I care....
I'd thought that singing a few bars of "The STFU Song" might be appropriate here, but I don't see any reason to waste energy on someone so full of himself that he can't even see his way clear to act and speak in a reasonable and mature manner. In a media world where most pundits feel justified in ridiculing Liberals for any numbers of offenses- some real, most imagined- why would Michael Moore be stupid enough to provide the trolls with yet more ammunition? He's smarter than that...and WE DESERVE BETTER.
Jeebus, what a (&^%$#@ maroon....
