As you might imagine, there are some SERIOUS differences between Houston and Portland. Few differences are more pronounced than the respective attitudes towards religion- specifically, Christianity. While a church in Houston is seriously working to build a 150-foot cross in order to "stake out" Houston for Christ (wouldn't it be easier to pee on a tree or something?), most Portlanders have a decidedly "live and let live" attitude towards religion. A sign promoting atheism in Portland draws barely a notice and little more than barely-stifled yawns. Put that same sign in Houston, though, and you'd best be prepared for the loud and immediate outcry from the offended self-righteous, holier-than-thou, pitchfork-and-torch-bearing hordes.
