Anyone who's been there knows that "English cuisine" is an oxymoron

The people of England may need to upgrade their plumbing — Taco Bell is coming to the UK later this summer. As part of parent company Yum Brands’ plan to increase their foothold in Jolly Ol’ England, it is attempting to slowly insinuate the not-exactly-Mexican taco chain into the fast food fabric there. Yum has already expanded the numbers of their KFC and Pizza Hut stores in the UK in recent months…. “This is a major step in our international expansion, and Lakeside is just the start of our plans in this country,” said Nick Dawson, general manager, Taco Bell UK and Europe…. But, pointing out that the market for Mexican food in the UK has increased by 9% in just the last two years, Yum thinks the timing is right for a Taco Bell invasion.

If you’ve been to England, then you no doubt understand that the food is…well, describing it as largely inedible would be charitable but not inaccurate. When I was in London, I even did something that I NEVER do when I’m overseas- I ate at a Wendy’s near Marble Arch. Let’s face it, y’all; when the best thing a country has to offer comes wrapped in greasy newsprint, you’ve got to find sustenance where you can. Now that Taco Bell is about to assault English sensibilities (and colons), things might just be getting better for American tourists. Hey, it’s not like you’re going to go to England for the food. When’s the last time you saw an English restaurant in this country? I rest my case….

Then again, if my choice was to be between Taco Bell and fish and chips…well, I think I’d give up and take the Ferry to France.
