If you want faithful and devoted, look for four legs and a wet nose

A dog teaches a boy fidelity, perserverance, and to turn around three times before lying down.

Cats are smarter than dogs. You can’t get eight cats to pull a sled through snow.

I’ve heard it said (though I think it was about politics in Washington, DC) that if you want a friend, you should get a dog. Given what’s been happening in my life of late, a dog might just be far less trouble and aggravation…and I’ve actually been giving it some thought. It’ll probably be some time before I’m in a position to get a dog, but I’ve found myself considering the possibilities. The first step, of course, would seem to be figuring out what kind of dog would suit me. I’ve always loved big dogs, but I’m open to possibilities, so I turned to a site out of New Zealand called Doggelganger. Using what they call “Human to Canine Pairing Software,” Doggleganger matches you to a dog up for adoption based on a photo you upload from your hard drive or webcam.

OK, so the dogs are in New Zealand, and the odds of me going there to get a dog are about the same as me dating anytime soon. Still, the second dog I was matched with has some possibilities”

I am super cute and wee buy shy but with plenty of love and cuddles I will be your forever friend. Do you have room in your heart and life for me?

Given what’s happened recently, a little unconditional (even if four-legged) love would go a long ways. A dog always accepts you for who you are, always treats you fairly, and just wants to be with you. That’s sounding pretty good right about now. Besides, dogs really CAN read your mind.

Sometimes, a little wet nose goes a long way….
