Dear Jack,
I know. It seems early to ramp up for the 2012 election. It seemed early back in May of 2009 too. That’s when a little-known State Representative named Marco Rubio declared his candidacy for the U.S. Senate, challenging RINO Governor Charlie Crist in Florida’s Republican primary.
But thanks to the tireless effort of FreedomWorks members like you, Marco Rubio was elected in 2010 and joined a growing number of principled Tea Party legislators in the United States Senate. Rubio along with Senators like Mike Lee, Jim DeMint, Rand Paul, and Pat Toomey, are on a mission to restore limited government, free markets, and individual liberty to the halls of the Senate.
For some reason I keep getting email soliticitation from Matt Kibbe, the President and CEO of FreedomWorks, or as I refer to them after a couple of drinks, “Just another Right-wing AstroTurf organization.” By now, it shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone who’s been paying attention is that FreedomWorks is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Koch Industries masquerading as a grassroots Tea Party organization. The giveaway? Anyone who would think to describe Jim DeMint and Rand Paul as “principled Tea Party legislators” is either in the bag or completely divorced from reality- not that “reality” and “Tea Party” should ever appear in the same sentence.
I responded to Kibbe, or at least his automated mailbox and explained that, while I admire his dedication to his cause,
I will contribute to FreedomWorks when winged pigs violate Saudi Arabian airspace. Your group is nothing more than AstroTurf, bought and paid for by the Koch brothers. You know nothing of democracy, honesty, or simple decency.
Sure, I felt better after sending my response, but I’m not about to delude myself into believing it will have any discernible impact. If you lack a functional grip on reality, someone thinking they should make you aware of that probably isn’t going to be well-received.
And so the madness and propaganda continue….
