Today's dispatch from the attic

While GOP wants to re-invade Iraq, nuke Iran, repeal health care reform, & colonize the moon. And we progressives are out of touch?

@DimeStoreNinja

I believe it was Adolf Hitler who said that one of the first things he’d do upon seizing power was to get rid of the silly notion that women should control their own bodies. While I hate to run the risk of becoming a victim of Godwin’s Law, in this case the comparison is apt. Republicans have taken it upon themselves to wage war on contraception. I suppose if you define women as sperm receptacles and baby machines who are rightfully the property of men, this seems right and just. if you’re like me, and you believe that women deserve the right to make decision regarding their own body and reproductive functions, John Boehner is beginning to look an awful lot like Robert Duvall’s character in The Handmaid’s Tale.

Speaking of going to war (metaphorically speaking), my blogging comrade-in-arms Les Jenkins has taken up arms against Lowe’s, who appear to be taking themselves just a wee bit too seriously. Should a business require that anyone wanting to link to them first get permission? Or does someone at Lowe’s just really not understand how da Interwebs tubes work? Evidently, Susan G. Komen for the Cure tried this tactic a few years ago and was roundly slapped down for it. Arrogant…and built to stay that way.

If you’re a Conservative who insists on flogging the tired and inaccurate “Liberal Media” canard, get a grip, willya? It’s propaganda, and it’s just makes you look silly and stupid…’kay??

Here’s a pro tip for aspiring teachers: If you want to get to know your students, I wouldn’t recommend the method chosen by Sarah Jane Lindsay and Audrey Beidleman Grabarkiewicz. They threw parties featuring marijuana, alcohol, and…wait for it…sex with students. Look, if you have to refer to the Wikipedia page, Ages of Consent In North America in order to determine if you’re on the safe side of the law before you have a party, you’re doing it wrong.

You can thank me later.

Don’tcha just LOVE a good Twitter feud? It seems that Kendrick Perkins and Lebron James aren’t exactly seeing eye to eye these days. Yo, Kendrick; grow up, willya??

If you happen to be male and you really, really, really dislike female commentators at sporting events, ESPN feels your pain. The rest of us…well, me specifically…think you need to crawl out from under your rock and join the 21st century, knowhutimean??

I find myself wondering how many more Syrians have to die at the hand of their government before the international community steps in and does the right thing. Egypt got a hand, Libya’s Muammar Gaddafi was pushed over the brink…but Syria is left to immolate itself? Having traveled in Syria (Damascus is one of my favorite places in the world), this is admittedly personal, and I’ll own up to not being the most objective observer. That said, how is it that the world can stand by and allow the Syrian government to murder their own citizens? Are we that afraid of pissing off Russian and China??

So you lost your house to foreclosure, even though your bank acted in an immoral, unethical, and perhaps even illegal manner? Not to worry, because the federal government is here to protect you. And once you get that $1500-$2000 payment from the $26 billion settlement that 49 states attorneys general wrestled from the mortgage industry, I’ll be you’re going to be feeling VERY protected. That oughta make everything all better, eh? Be sure to thank the federal government…because it was their inaction and failure to regulate that put you in this position in the first place.
