Inept, uncoordinated...and evidently built to stay that way

If you happened to be driving in the vicinity of Mt. Tabor in SE Portland yesterday morning, I hope that you’ll accept my sincere apologies. Yes, that was me, the idiot weaving around on his bike as if he didn’t know how to ride it…because that was pretty much the case. My bad…

My car was in the shop, and I had an appointment about two miles from home, so I decided to do something very Portland and ride my bike over. I’d just pulled it out of the garage a few days ago and took it over to a bike shop. $200 later, it was restored to riding condition. There was only one problem: I hadn’t ridden a bike in over 20 years, and I had NO idea how to work the gear shift levers on a 21-speed. Somehow I managed to make it to my appointment and back in one piece, but I can’t imagine the motorists who had to give me a wide berth were very happy with me.

Then I rode another five miles into north Portland to pick up my car…and it was more of the same. Fortunately, traffic was light and no one decided to run me off the road.

Y’all had best get used to it, though; you’re going to be seeing a lot more of me…although I hope to be less of a danger to myself and those around me.
