Campaigning in St. Louis yesterday, Mitt Romney, reading from his teleprompter, told supporters he would never be a “president of doubt and deception.”…. You could almost hear irony weeping. After all, as Kevin Drum explained, “I expect political candidates to bend the truth a fair amount…. But Romney’s willingness to flat-out lie is singular.”…. Or as Rachel explained just last night, “Mr. Romney gets caught saying things that are factually wrong, and the thing that is different about him is that he does not mind; he doesn’t fix it; he doesn’t even try to worm out of it. He doesn’t appear to feel any shame about it at all — and he’s happy to keep telling the lie once he knows it is a lie.”
So what do you call a man who lies so frequently and with such alacrity that he honestly believes he’s a man of integrity?
How about, “The Republican Candidate for President?” This is what the GOP has offered up to the American Sheeple- Mitt Romney, who lies with the same facility with which he breathes. His attitude seems to be that if it exits his mouth, it’s ipso facto the truth. Because of this, even when he’s proven beyond a shadow of a doubt to be incorrect…or flat-out lying…he has no interest in correcting the record- because it’s not what the truth is, it’s what you can convince the American Sheeple is the truth.
The truly sad thing is that Romney’s lies and prevarications continue at such a stunning pace that it’s almost impossible to keep up. Indeed, many in the media are simply too lazy to even try to keep up. Mitt’s mendacity should be a major campaign issue, and yet it seems he continues getting a free pass (being a Republican means never having to say you’re sorry…or worry about being held accountable). If Barack Obama was guilty of the same behavior he’d (deservedly) be criticized by the media (yeah, I know; WHAT Liberal media??).
Because so much of today’s media is bending over backwards to appear impartial, it’s OK for a Republican to lie. Democrats will still get hammered for lying, but Republicans are able to get a free pass.
It would be nice to think that the Mainstream Media could find it within themselves to hold politician Republicans accountable for not even bothering to discrern truth from lies and propaganda. The only way that would ever happen to Mitt Romney would be if he was a Democrat…and he’d be roasted.
With that sad reality in mind, here’s the MaddowBlog’s weekly chronicle of Romney’s lies- Chronicling Mitt’s Mendacity, Vol XXI. Mitt Romney couldn’t find the truth if it walked up to him and bit him on the ass…but, since he’s a man of integrity, that doesn’t appear to present a problem for him.
