Every Presidential election, I wind up asking myself the same question: Where can I find topless pictures of Kate Middleton?

Just kidding…the real questions is why the media is fixated with polls that focus on the popular vote…as if that even matters. Remember when Al Gore proved that it’s possible to win the popular vote and still lose the election (I’d argue that is was stolen, but that argument is SO 2000….)? No, the only thing that matters is the electoral college, and while Barack Obama holds (depending on which poll you believe) a 3-6 point lead in the popular vote, the numbers that matter are far more favorable to the President.
I’m not about to get cocky and assume that there’s no way Mitt Romney can win, but as his campaign seems to be imploding from Hoof-in Mouth Disease, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to imagine a scenario in which he garners a majority of the electoral college. Looking at the popular vote in polls may allow the media to claim the race is still close, but a closer examination, which the media seems incapable of, yields a much different picture.
It’s nowhere near time to use the “Stick a fork in him, he’s done” analogy, but Romney is running out of time, and the longer the campaign drags on the more he’s managing to be his own worst enemy. His only real hope would seem to be the President getting caught in flagrante delicto in the Rose Garden with a herd of Girl Scouts. You can’t alienate seniors, women, students, Hispanics, African-Americans…and 47% of the population…and reasonably expect to be giving anything but a concession speech on November 6th.
Not that I’m particularly upset by that prospect….
