Ashley Judd for Kentucky 2016. What; like Mitch McConnell deserves another term doing nothing?

Despite the public support she’s received, Kentucky native Judd isn’t setting up any exploratory committees just yet…. “I cherish Kentucky, heart and soul, and while I’m very honored by the consideration, we have just finished an election, so let’s focus on coming together to keep moving America’s families, and especially our kids, forward,” Judd told Us Weekly in a statement Wednesday.

One hears all manner of rumors in the wake of an election. Most of the scuttlebutt contains about as much truth as your average Mitt Romney stump speech. Still the “news” that Democrat were courting actress Ashley Judd as a potential opponent to Turtle-American Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is intriguing, to say the least.

As often happens with these rumors, the object of affection often graciously demurs, stating that while they’re flattered by the consideration, they have more than enough on their plate and no desire to enter politics. If you take Ashley Judd’s statement at face value, that might just be what she means. Still, she didn’t say no…so there’s still a chance.

The time for making these decisions are a ways down the road, but the idea of yet another woman (and a Liberal Democrat) in the Senate does present some interesting possibilities. Especially when you consider that McConnell has accomplished nothing of value over the past four years, unless you consider obstructing the President at every turn as a record to be proud of.

I know nothing about Kentucky politics. I do have to admit, thought, that the idea of an intelligent, capable, and articulate woman running against McConnell’s record of…well, I don’t know what, really…presents some delicious possibilities. Whether Kentuckians are ready for intelligence and competence remains to be seen.

Stay tuned….
