Memo to Republicans: Time to rejoin the fact-based community and deal with things as they are

Republicans can accept reality or not, but that decision isn’t about to change what happened on Tuesday night. Women won. The LGBT community won. Those who believe in liberty and freedom won. The GOP/Teapublican agenda suffered a significant, crushing defeat, so the question becomes: Now what? Do Republicans decide to work with Democrats to move this country forward? Do they get over the Tea Party belief that compromise is a sign of moral weakness? Do the lose their “our-way-or-we-let-America-burn” world view? So far, I’ve heard words of conciliation and temperance from some Republican leaders, but in the past that’s been merely a smoke screen. They’ve talked the talk of working with Democrats, but walking the walk has been another story altogether. And as long as Mitch McConnell is in a position of leadership, bipartisanship and cooperation will likely remain a pipe dream.

We don’t know how Republicans will conduct themselves after Inauguration Day, but in the meantime Rachel Maddow has expertly and masterfully sorted out the fallout from Election Night for us. It comes down to one thing: will Republicans rejoin the fact-based community, or will they continue their obstructionism? Will the Rabid Right be able to constructively channel their considerable (and unjustified) anger for the good of the country? Or will they hold their agenda above any and all consideration of what’s best for America?

Here’s something else for Republicans to consider: math is not your friend, nor is your inability to live in the real world. You can leave your bubble and join the rest of us, or you can continue to become progressively more irrelevant. Your choice.

Stay tuned….
