Why Barack Obama has been not just a good, but a great President

The last four years have been a frustrating and humbling time for millions of Americans. Many, myself included, have seen their economic situation and prospects take a major hit. It’s hard to feel good about things when your own personal situation has deteriorated to a degree you never could have imagined. That said, we should be careful not to vote based solely on our own situation. A Presidential election is about the future of this country, and while an individual may not necessarily be better off than they were four years ago, America most certainly is.

I’ve had my frustrations with Barack Obama. Like many Liberals, I’ve been disappointed that he hasn’t been more aggressive on issues important to Liberals. The reality is that Barack Obama isn’t a Liberal; we projected that on him because we needed to after eight years of chronic ineptitude and callous mismanagement. It’s taken me some time, but when I was able to look at Obama’s term objectively, I began to realize what he’s accomplished. It’s a substantial list, and there’s a very good chance that, if he’s re-elected and continues on a similar trajectory, he may well go down as one of the most consequential Presidents in American history.

If you don’t believe me, let Rachel Maddow walk you through the argument. I think you’ll agree that, despite the hateful atmosphere created by the Far Right, Barack Obama’s term has been a Presidency notable for several significant achievements. Barack Obama has been not just a good, but a great President.

Is there work remaining to be done? Absolutely; but do you REALLY believe that Mitt Romney is up for or inclined to tackle the challenge?
