Louie Gohmert: The early leader in the clubhouse in the race for "Dumbest Person in Washington"

What was all the rage a year and a half ago? It was the Arab Spring and how wonderful it was! This administration really embraced blowing out Mubarak - yes, do it up by all means - getting rid of Qaddafi, it wasn’t enough to send verbal accolades, this administration sent planes and bombs and support to oust Qaddafi so that al-Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood could take over Libya.

When one begins considering the contenders for the “honorific” of “Dumbest Person in Washington,” there are so many viable candidates: Peter King, Joe Barton, Michele Bachmann, Allen West, Virginia Foxx…and so on, and so on…. There’s a veritable plethora of intellectual dullards in positions of power in Washington. That the vast majority are Republicans speaks for itself. There is, however, one pinhead who towers above the competition for sheer ignorance and rampant, unmedicated lunacy: Louie Gohmert. I’ve written at some length over the years about Gohmert’s epic lack of mental acuity and absence of anything resembling a filter. It would take too long to catalog the myriad specious, mean-spirited, and wholly unfounded charges Gohmert has fired at Barack Obama. Evidently, in Gohmert’s world, things like “proof” and “evidence” are mere inconveniences to be ignored or brushed aside when there are political points to be scored. Truth is for losers and Liberals, eh?

That Gohmert keeps getting re-elected by his east Texas constituents probably says more about the knuckle-draggers in his Congressional district than it does about Gohmert, but he’s managed to distinguish himself…for all the wrong reasons. I’m not certain that establishing a reputation as a Far Right attack dog is something to be proud of…but I suppose it beats being ignored- which he most certainly would be otherwise. With no legislative record to speak of, it’s difficult to know what Gohmert has accomplished in Washington outside of keeping his seat warm enough to continue drawing his Congressional salary.

Nice work if you can get it….

Gohmert’s latest silliness? How about stopping just short of intimating that Obama intervened in Libya so he could take over al-Qaeda? I wish I was kidding.

Man, I can hardly wait to see how he tops this one.
