Another reason why every day is Gun Appreciation Day

One of the city’s anti-crime street workers — son of a prominent Dorchester youth minister — is facing firearms charges and an ongoing police investigation after a woman was shot in the head and critically wounded in the apartment they share yesterday morning, according to police and his
father.

City street worker Jeremy Harrison, 28, was arrested yesterday on charges of possessing an unlicensed firearm and having an unsecured firearm where a minor was present, shortly after a woman in her 20s was shot in a Arbutus Street apartment off Blue Hill Avenue at 10:15 a.m., police said. Police said the woman was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

The Rev. Shaun Harrison said his son lives there with the victim in a building owned by the minister’s wife. The reverend, who leads Operation Project GO, a youth anti-crime outreach program, said the woman had been shot in the head.

Police provided no details on what happened, saying they are continuing to investigate and that there could be additional charges. The reverend called the shooting “an accident.”

“He was cleaning his gun, and he forgot there was a shell in the chamber, and he struck his girlfriend in the head,” he said. “They were madly in love with each other. This wasn’t domestic violence. It was an accident.”
