A special agent of the New Jersey Department of Treasury is being treated at a local hospital after accidentally shooting himself during training at the Monmouth County Police Academy Firearms Training Facility.
Capt. Andy Kudrick of the Howell Police Department said the 41-year-old man was taking part in firearms familiarization training when his firearm discharged. A press release from the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office said the gun was a 9mm handgun.
According to the press release there were two shooters and two instructors on the range at the time of the incident. An EMT was also on the scene and responded to the incident.
The man was then taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center where he was treated for what is believed to be a non life threatening a gunshot wound to the left foot.
