ROCK HILL — Police say a Rock Hill man trying to clean his gun accidentally fired a bullet into his neighbor’s apartment Saturday night.
Sometime after 11:50 a.m., the gun’s owner, 29, called police and reported that he accidentally shot a bullet into the adjacent Paces River apartment and he feared that it might have “struck” his neighbor, according to a Rock Hill Police report.
The man’s neighbor, a woman, 25, told police that the bullet went through her bedroom wall while she was in her bed, the report states. She wasn’t injured.
Once the bullet flew through her wall, she said the gun owner knocked on her door to check on her well-being, according to the report.
The man said he was trying to take apart his pistol to clean it when he pulled the trigger, the report states. He didn’t realize a bullet was in the chamber.
Police seized the gun and issued the man a citation for discharging a firearm within city limits.
