GOP: The party of business...except when it's not, which is frequently

Kid Rock made waves by supporting Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election, but that doesn’t mean he always toes the party line. In an new interview with Rolling Stone, the rocker says one point in particular had him foaming at the mouth. As previously reported, Kid Rock is planning a tour and trying to keep ticket prices at $20. He hasn’t been completely successful, however, because of ticketing fees and states that have outlawed paperless ticketing. Guess who is to blame: “That’s one of the times I’m f—king embarrassed to be a Republican,” Rock said. “It’s f—king Republican lawmakers passing those laws, you dumbasses. They already did it in New York and they’re trying to do it in Michigan. I’ve even called some of those guys to try and stop it.”

You’ve no doubt heard it as much as I have: The Republican Party is the party of business, always looking to reduce regulation and get government off the backs of small business owners. Republicans just LOVE business…yadayadayada…. Kid Rock’s frustration is genuine and understandable, though I find it interesting that he’s got his hackles up only when Republican silliness impacts him directly. As Republicans attempt to dismantle the social safety net, kill health care reform, and increase income inequality, he’s continued to support Republican candidates. His support for Mitt Romney made a mockery of his image as a man of the people, a middle class stalwart who hasn’t forgotten his roots.

Right….

I’m not going to hold forth about how the Left is always correct and the Right is always wrong, but the truth isn’t far from that. While Republicans continue to advocate for policies designed to help the 1% at the expense of everyone else (Austerity? You’re REALLY going to continue to argue that we can save and cut our way out of a recession?), a large number of Americans continue to swallow the propaganda and support those who advocate for policies that, if left unchecked, would run this country into the ground.

Then again, I can understand where Kid Rock’s coming from. Most Republicans don’t get exercised about something until it impacts them (and their bank account) directly. Hypocrisy and self-interest seem to be universal Republican values.
