Proof the Tea Party really is home to crackpots, bigots, loons, and haters of all stripes

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

(apologies to Keith Olbermann)

Danita Kilcullen

The co-founder of the Fort Lauderdale Tea Party compared a pro-gay Republican group to “gay thugs” who have taken over the local Republican party. In a November email obtained by the Sun-Sentinel, Danita Kilcullen said the Employment Non-Discrimination Act would force employers to “hire someone with orange hair, body/neck/face covered with tattoos, multiple piercings, or a man in a dress … or for that matter, a demonstrative effeminate male or purposeful butch-looking female.” The Log Cabin Republicans, in supporting this legislation, “is a thug organization with only their own ‘special interests’ in play.”

If the fact that the Tea Party rests on a foundation of racism, bigotry, and homophobia comes as a surprise, perhaps it’s time to turn off Fox News Channel and take a good look around. When fascinates me is that just when I begin to think teabaggers couldn’t possibly sink any lower or display any less humanity, they prove me wrong. Again.

Danita Kilcullen is noteworthy only insofar as she serves to illustrate the reality that the Tea Party has little of value to offer. What they do offer in abundance is anger, vitriol, racism, bigotry, and homophobia. If you’re not White, Conservative, and Christian, you simply don’t factor into the Tea Party’s calculations. Kilcullen simply takes the bigotry and homophobia to new heights (or depths, depending on your perspective). It’s difficult to respond rationally to such irrational hate-driven lunacy. I’ll grant Kilcullen the right to oppose ENDA, but her argument only demonstrates her to be an ugly little ball of hate.

Gay thugs? Really? As if there’s some sort of secret gay army bent on forcing the Homosexual Agenda upon good, God-fearing White Folks, right? Kilcullen not only displays a stunning lack of understanding of what ENDA is and would do, she’s evidently completely incapable of constructing and supporting a rational argument. Why argue reasonably when you can demonstrate yourself to be as irrational and hateful as you are willing to engage in world class self-parody?

I suppose the good news about Kilcullen and her ilk is that they demonstrate how thoroughly ridiculous such virulent hatred is. History isn’t on their side, they know it, and so they rage against the dying light with every ounce of righteous indignation they can muster. It makes Kilcullen look like the sad, sorry excuse for humanity she is. And if she’s so worried about “purposeful butch-looking females,” well…d’ya think she’s taken a good look in the mirror recently??

As for me, I’ll just count my blessings and be thankful I don’t wake up next to her every morning.
