Who Would Jesus Hate? The Values Voters Summit is here to answer that question.

This Friday the Family Research Council (FRC) is set to kick off its “Values Voter Summit,” an annual conclave of politicians, candidates, thought leaders and activists who gather in our nation’s capital to discuss a myriad of issues and ideas germane to FRC’s extremist agenda. The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) has deemed the organization an anti-LGBT hate group and the Summit has been condemned frequently over the years for its inclusion of many radical participants.

Normally I could care less about the Values Voters Summit, or, as I call it, “HateFest 2014.” The so-called “Christians” who gather in our nation’s capital to spew their hatred and bile in the name of Jesus Christ are as much Christian as I am Mr. Universe. The authoritarian, absolutist, homophobic “patriots” clearly believe they’re doing the Lord’s work…but all they’re really do is wrapping themselves in their bastardized faith as a means of justifying their hatred and prejudice.

VVS is a veritable “Who’s Who” of haters, bigots, zealots, and homophobes. They believe themselves to be the Chosen Ones, holier than thou and in the fast lane on the expressway to Heaven. Except that if they had any familiarity with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, they’d have to admit just how completely they’ve missed the mark. Christian charity and tolerance are nowhere to be found, but there’s enough hatred and fear-mongering to last a few lifetimes.

Sponsored by the paragons of Christian virtue at the Family Research Council, VVS is all about hundreds of haters and bigots gathering in our nation’s capitol to have their twisted faith reaffirmed. Outside of its value as a comedy gold mine, VVS and FRC are of no consequence…other than the fuel they provide for the American Taliban to continue spreading hatred and bigotry in the name of Jesus Christ. The trolls are of little consequence except as examples of why atheism remains a serviceable option. If believing in God means carrying that much hatred and fear, not believing in God seems a pretty reasonable and preferable choice. This is especially true when you consider what FRC believes. To say that it has little if any relation to true Christianity would be something of an understatement. In order that you don’t have to waste your beautiful mind (apologies to Barbara Bush) trying to determine just how much unChristian hatred and homophobia the American Taliban is peddling these days, the Human Rights Campaign has helpfully offered “10 Things You Might Not Have Known About the Anti-LGBT Family Research Council.” Be careful; you might feel the need to shower after you finish reading it.

If these people are Christians, I’m the Queen of England.
