Politicians don't play sports. Athletes shouldn't play politics...unless they want to be ridiculous.

Jason Babin, aside from being a afterthought of the New York Jets, is also somewhat of a political and meterology expert. So when A prominent scientologist like the founder of the Weather Channel goes on the record for like the millonth time denying that climate change exists at all well you drop every thing and you lis[t]en…. And Babin would know a thing or two about scamming people out of money based on one fluky statiscal year, folks.

Jason Babin was fortunate enough to have a decent, if undistinguished, career as a professional football player. For that, I’ll give him his due. He was talented and dedicated enough to realize his dream and play in the NFL. That and $1.50 might get him a latte at a local Starbucks…because his career as a political pundit is off to a decidedly rocky start. Cue the Conservative self-delusion and willful negligence of scientific reality.

If you listen closely, you’ll hear Nero fiddling while Rome burns around him….

I get that Babin doesn’t believe global climate change to be a thing. Fair enough. In a free society, he’s free to his opinion…and I’m free to call him on his ignorance of empirical reality. Thankfully for the rest of us, Babin’s opinion is worth about as much as his football trading card currently is.

I love the way that Conservatives like Babin can manage to ignore the 97% of climate scientists who’ve attested to the validity of global climate change…but one prominent person comes out against it, and…TRUTH!!! If 97% of structural engineers told us that the bridge we’re about to cross will collapse, Jason Babin would side with the 3% who believe it to be sound…which is why he’d end up in the river below. Yes, natural selection IS still a thing.

In the end, I could care less about what Jason Babin thinks- about anything. What concerns me is the school of thought he represents- the willingness to denying empirical, demonstrable scientific truth when it doesn’t dovetail with his closely held ideology. Those who think as he does (like the Koch brothers, f’rinstance) are willing to take a chance that 97% of climate scientists are merely pushing a Liberal political agenda. They’re willing to err on the side of inaction as we find evidence of climate change all around us. They’re willing to remain idle even as they actively ignore the growing mountain of scientific evidence showing that our climate IS changing and that mankind is responsible. Right…when the Rapture comes, the state of the environment will no longer matter, eh?

Are those who think like Babin REALLY willing to take a (97%) chance that they could be wrong? Are they really willing to delay taking meaningful action until we’ve reached the point of no return? Is ignorance and arrogance our new touchstone??

Stupid is as stupid does. Truly.
