Americans love to bitch and moan about things. Congress is gridlocked politicians are corrupt. Nothing of value happens in Washington. While those are all things to legitimately worthy of being angry about, we miss the most important piece of the puzzle.
WE are responsible for the current corrupt and sorry state of our body politic. Politicians don’t land in Washington with lifetime sinecures and the freedom to sell their votes to the highest bidder. They’re where they are because WE put them there- because we’ve elected them, whether through our votes…or the simple fact that we couldn’t be bothered to vote. Either way, the ultimate responsibility lies with us, the sheeple. We could choose to participate, to educate ourselves and vote for those most likely to represent our interests and do the right things. Instead, we choose to ignore what’s being done in our name, we get our information from Fox News Channel, meaning our opinions are too often formed via propaganda and disinformation. People don’t hate Barack Obama because of what he has or hasn’t done; they hate him because of the propaganda and disinformation that’s been spread about him. That’s the sort of thing that happens when those with the power to effect change- We, the Sheeple- can’t be bothered to pay attention unless Duck Dynasty is on.
In a few short days, we once again have the opportunity to choose who represents us. We can elect a collection of ignorami beholden to the Koch brothers…or we can choose to elect people who will do the right thing by America. That won’t happen unless people who want things to change get off their couches and vote. I’ve heard it said too many times that voters who lean Democratic are suffering from a lack of enthusiasm and might not vote in large numbers. If this describe you and you can’t be bothered to exercise your franchise, then YOU are what’s wrong with America. If you can’t be bothered to meet your responsibility and cast your vote, you’ll have no right to complain when the corrupt, the dogmatic, the hyper-religious, and the incompetent take office in January. The only way American democracy will work is if the people responsible for maintaining it- US- do the right thing and vote.
It’s a pretty simple equation, really….
VOTE. OR BE PREPARED TO SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES.
