Behold the awesome political power and influence of naked boobies

So this happened. On Christmas Day, after Pope Francis sang a rousing round of “Happy Birthday, Jesus” from his special balcony on St. Peter’s Basilica, a lady who’d forgotten to put on a shirt that day bum-rushed the crowd of people who’d gathered for the party to steal the little plastic Jesus from the nativity scene, with the words “God is woman” inked on her chest. The woman is a member of FEMEN, a super-radical-even-for-us-radical-feminists feminist group who, as far as we can tell, is taking down the patriarchy by being topless in public.

Here’s a question for the ladies in the audience: If you’re trying to draw attention to your cause, and you know a significant portion of your target audience is male, do you

A) Politely ask to speak and hope to be noticed,

B) Roll a grenade under a politicians limousine and then proceed to mow down passersby with your AK-47, or

c) Run topless through the Vatican after stealing a statue of the baby Jesus?

If you decided to go against the grain and go with “D) None of the above,” well…thanks for playing the feud, but you lose. If we’re talking about FEMEN, and in this case we most certainly are, you can usually count on naked breasts being involved. Of course, most guys don’t know FEMEN from Joe Flacco, but mention “naked breasts,” and you’ll have our rapt attention. I know, you’d think we’d never seen a pair of naked boobies before, right?

I mean, who CARES what her message was? She’s got naked boobies!!!

I admire FEMEN’s commitment to its cause, but when people are talking more about topless protesters than whatever cause it is they’re protesting, I’d say you might have a messaging problem. FEMEN might excel at creating controversy and drawing attention (a topless woman in public tends to do that), but I’m not certain Joe Sixpack could tell us what FEMEN’s cause celebre is.

Who cares? They’ve got naked boobies!!!
