Dreaming of a White Christmas: Erasing the line between "class" and "ass"

It’s a very un-Christmas like Facebook post. An image of a Klu Klux Klan member standing with hands folded. The words, “I’m dreaming of a white Christmas” emblazoned on the image. What may be even more disturbing, is the post was sent out by Hooks Independent School District board member Chris Harris…. “News travels fast and you have to be careful, because it can do a lot of damage to you and others,” said Hooks ISD Superintendent Ronnie Thompson. “People can get into trouble quickly.”…. After receiving some negative feedback to the post Harris began to apologize for the post. Harris posted messages saying in part that he realizes what he posted was inappropriate and offended people. He went on to say he’s deeply sorry and not a racist.

“I’m not a racist.” It’s as tired as it is predictable: White Person does something phenomenally, mind-numbingly stupid and racially disrespectful. White Person receives significant, painful, and unanticipated blowback from the four corners of da Interwebz. White Person apologizes “for any unintended offense I may have caused.” White Person goes on to claim “I’m not a racist.” White Person hopes the whole thing will just disappear…which, of course, it doesn’t, because they ignorantly neglected the one immutable, inalienable, and unalterable rule that governs the Internet:

WHAT HAPPENS ON THE INTERNET STAYS ON THE INTERNET. FOREVER AND EVER. WORLD WITHOUT END, AMEN.

It’s one thing to claim you’re not a racist…but really, what are we supposed to think when one posts a picture of a KKK member in a white robe with the caption, “I’M DREAMING OF A WHITE CHRISTMAS?” Chris Harris may have convinced himself that he’s not a racist, but his actions speak far louder than his words ever could. No one who isn’t a racist would post something like that and expect others to see the humor in it. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and talks like a duck….

Yep, somebody’s got some ‘splainin’ to do.

Here’s a pro tip: If you have something that you think is funny but others outside your circle of friends and fellow inbreds might not see the humor in, DON’T POST IT ON FACEBOOK. If you have the intelligence, self-awareness, and common decency to recognize that, of course.

‘Tis better to be thought an asshole than to post something racist and/or grossly offense on Facebook and remove any lingering doubt.

Remember, if you’ve put yourself in a position where you feel the need to publicly proclaim that you’re not a racist, you’ve already lost…because the Internet will recognize you for what you in fact are- a racist.

Oh, and one more thing: If you’re not a racist, how are you going to rationalize this? On second thought, don’t bother; you’re already toast.

Yeah, you’re a racist, all right…as well as a smug, arrogant asshole. Nice work, Ace.
