Today's nominee for Headline of the Year: Never underestimate the power of naked Kenyans

5,000 Kenyans to Strip Naked in Protest of Obama’s ‘Aggressive Support for Homosexuality’

5,000 people will strip naked in protest when President Obama visits Kenya in coming weeks to make a statement against his support for same-sex marriage, the Nairobi News reports. Vincent Kidaha, who is leading the demonstration by the Republican Liberty Party on July 22 and 23, told the newspaper that 4,000 men and 1,000 will strip naked in a protest against homosexuality: “The procession shall be carried out by approximately 5,000 totally naked men and women to protest over the United States of America President Barack Obama’s open and aggressive support for homosexuality…. The party’s objective is for him to see and understand the different (sic) between a man and a woman.”

It’s been said that hatred could easily be on its second circumnavigation of the globe before love manages to drag its carcass out of the sack. As if to illustrate this truth, Kenyans have taken their obsession with the private sexual practices of others to absurd lengths, the latest being this protest. First of all, the idea that Barack Obama doesn’t understand the difference between a man and a women is so ridiculous as to not merit acknowledgement. The method the haters and homophobes have chosen to express their disapproval is an embarrassment- to themselves, their cause, and their country. Better to be thought a fool than to strip naked in public and reveal your shortcomings for all to see.

I have no problem with people of whatever stripe making their feelings known. Free societies thrive on that sort of thing, right? The mere fact of someone stating their opinion doesn’t burden me with the requirement to respect it. I respect the haters’ right to their opinion; it’s the opinion itself and the self-righteous ignorance and arrogance behind it I find abhorrent.

You don’t have to like homosexuality. You may find it disgusting, an abomination before God, and/or just plain “icky.” That’s your right. The right you DON’T have is to believe that you’re justified in using your moral compass as a measuring stick with which to judge the private sexual behavior of others. No one has that right to judge- or worse, condemn- others for behavior that in no way, shape, manner, or form impacts them directly…or even indirectly. If you’re that obsessed with the private sexual practices of others, I’d submit that says more about you than anything else. If you’re fixated on the perceived “evils” of homosexuality, you might want to give some thought to considering what you’re so frightened of.

If you and 4,999 of your fellow haters and homophobes believe that stripping naked in front of the President of the United States is a GREAT way to demonstrate your moral superiority, knock yourself out. I suspect most of the rest of the world (outside of Uganda, Russia, and Saudi Arabia) will join me in laughing at your “shortcomings.”

Do yourself a favor and at least wear sunscreen, ‘kay??
