Tolerance and acceptance: Only for losers, Liberals, and atheists...right??

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

(apologies to Keith Olbermann)

David Rosenthal

[A] group of anti-Islam wingnuts is attempting to get a Broward County sheriff’s deputy fired because he’s (gasp!) Muslim. Deputy Nezar Hamze hasn’t actually done anything more questionable than practice his faith, but really, isn’t that proof enough? The leader of the Idiot Brigade, one David Rosenthal, is a Loyal American Patriot who doesn’t understand even the first thing about the First Amendment or Article VI, Paragraph 3 of the Constitution, which he is allegedly a fan of, but the ban on religious tests for public office doesn’t matter, because Rosenthal has undoubtedly seen one of the many blogs explaining how Islam isn’t a real religion, duh…. Local TV station WPLG has a story on Rosenthal’s personal jihad — the station’s phrasing, so good on ‘em for calling out a hater as a hater — against a law enforcement officer who is unfit for duty because a bigot says so[.]

Here’s a story from Floriduh that will (not exactly) warm your heart this holiday season- that time of year which spotlights peace on Earth, goodwill towards men, and all the associated B.S. that goes along with it. It seems Broward County Deputy Sheriff Nezar Hamze has committed the unpardonable sin of enforcing Floriduh law while…GASP!! OMIGOD!!! WHAT ABOUT THE BABY JESUS!?!?!???…being Muslim.

Of course, there’s no indication or evidence that Deputy Hamze is guilty of anything save for being Muslim. In the cobwebby space between the ears in what passes for David Rosenthal’s brain, though, that fact alone should be an offense worthy of (ex)termination. Full credit- at least he isn’t trying to camouflage his bigotry. Truthfully, he’s pretty upfront about it: “I hate Islam. Islam is evil…. Ideally, I would ban Islam in the United States.”

He seems nice, eh? Peace on Earth, Goodwill towards men…just as long as they’re not Muslim.

Rosenthal and his Gang of Fifty (or so) held a rally outside the Broward County Courthouse calling not only for the firing of Hamze, but also Sheriff Scott Israel, since Israel endangered southern Florida by hiring Hamze in the first place. Rosenthal is especially torqued off at Hamze for refusing to comply with Rosenthal’s perfectly reasonable demand that he publicly renounce Sharia, because as we all know from high school civics class, every citizen is empowered to insist that law enforcement officers comply with whatever weirdass religious test We The People decide to make up for them. Even more ominously, Hamze is the director of the Florida chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, which proves he’s a terrorist. (No, it doesn’t.)

Rosenthal is, of course, free to believe whatever hateful excuse for a thought that happens to slither into his pointy li’l lizard brain, though I suspect if he was asked to explain Sharia (or what he calls Sharia-compliant) means, he’d have no clue. He KNOWS that Islam and Sharia are evil and unChristian, and that Muslims want nothing more than to destroy good, God-fearing Conservative White Christian patriots, but explaining what and why his antipathy is complete and totqal? Yeah, I’d be interested to hear his take on something he very likely has absolutely no understanding of.

There seems little doubt but that Rosenthal and his merry band of inbreds either don’t know or refuse to recognize that the Constitution proscribes religious tests for public office. Hamze, as an American citizen, has every right to work as a deputy sheriff…just as Rosenthal has the absolute, unquestioned right to be an ignorant, self-righteous dumbass. He can demand the Hamze recite the Pledge of Allegiance while balancing on a unicycle as he juggles chainsaws…but that’s not going to happen, either.

Rosenthal is seriously worried that the presence of a Muslim deputy sheriff marks the beginning of “The Islamization of Broward County,” which he supports by noting that there are many violent verses in the Quran. Asked about similarly violent passages in the Old Testament, Rosenthal stated:

[I]t doesn’t apply to him because he is a Christian and doesn’t necessarily have to follow teachings from the Old Testament.

“Just because I believe in the Bible doesn’t mean I’m called to follow everything in Deuteronomy,” he said.

And yet Rosenthal has no problem believing that Muslims are called to follow everything in the Quran. The arrogance and sheer ignorance of this belief aside, the truth is that Hamze is every bit the American Rosenthal is. He enjoys the same rights and bears the same responsibilities…and honestly, I’d be willing to bet that Hamze is a far better representative of American values than Rosenthal will EVER be.

Oh…and one more thing. If Rosenthal is so worried about terrorism, why isn’t he focused on the fact that Americans face a far greater threat from Christian terrorists than from the wild-eyed, radical Islamofascist variety? Or does he truly believe the fallacy that Christians can’t be terrorists?

Or is it simply that his hatred has blinded him to all reason and anything even faintly redolent of simple human decency?
