Todd Starnes: (not quite) America's Best Christian

Fox News pundit Todd Starnes is absolutely flabbergasted that some conservative Christian commentators such as Southern Baptist Convention official Russell Moore are questioning Donald Trump’s Christian faith, largely over Trump’s claim that he has never repented for anything or asked God for forgiveness. Trump, who has questioned the faith of Ben Carson and Ted Cruz, has also raised eyebrows over his pronunciation of “2 Corinthians” and claim that Christians need to “get even” with their enemies. Starnes jumped to the GOP presidential frontrunner’s defense, using his daily bulletin to criticize Christian leaders “who are attacking Donald Trump” and deriding them as “modern day Pharisees” who are “casting judgment” and conducting “a theological witch hunt.”

A day without psuedo-Christian hyper-religious hypocrisy is kinda like a day without sunshine, knowhutimean? While I certainly understand that Christians come in all flavors and, like any other group, can be all over the ideological map, there’s no explaining hypocrisy away…and when it comes to Christian hypocrisy, Todd Starnes sets the standard.

Starnes, who’s had no problem demeaning and questioning the Christian faith of The Black Guy in the White House ©, is INCENSED that anyone- especially Conservative Christian commentators and pundits- would dare to question the existence and veracity of The Donald’s faith. In the past, Starnes has frequently accused the President of being a fake Christian with designs on persecuting the real ones- as if Starnes himself is the very apotheosis of Christian authenticity. As for blaming his fellow Conservative Christian culture warriors for being “modern day Pharisees” who are “casting judgment” and conducting “a theological witch hunt“…it would seem the Chosen One (Starnes), though he’s clearly been gifted with many things, was never bestowed with even the barest minimum of self-knowledge.

I get it: REAL Christians can’t be Democrats…but being a racist xenophobe hardly seems something straight out of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Whenever you begin to wonder if perhaps “Christians” like Starnes might have a point, try to keep in mind that dominionist theocrats are proof the politics of the Rabid Religious Right are completely unrelated to the teachings contained within the Gospel. It’s about power, control, and destroying the Constitution in order that Conservative Christians might rule with unchecked power.

Exactly what Jesus would do, eh?
