I'm guessing someone truly, desperately needs to get laid

Christian author and publisher Mack Major warned over the weekend that “Christian women are losing their salvation” by using dildos, which he called a “direct path to Satan.”…. “Too many Christian women are losing their salvation because they masturbate,” Mack wrote on the Eden Decoded Facebook page. “Dildos and all of those other sex toys have been used for thousands of years in demonic sex rituals. It’s one of the main ways ancient pagan societies worshiped their demonic gods.”…. “Masturbation is a direct path to Satan,” he added. “There’s nothing normal about it. And shame on any Christian that says so.”…. On the Eden Decoded website, Mack urged readers not to be “ignorant of Satan’s devices.” And he suggested that the ancient city of Pompeii was destroyed because it was “completely engulfed in a culture of pornography, homosexuality, wild orgies and the worship of the little god with the huge member known as Priapus.”

It’s a source of endless amusement for me- Conservative Christian culture warriors who believe sexual pleasure outside of missionary-position coupling within the bonds of marriage (and only when absolutely necessary for purposes of procreation) is evil. Never mind that the God they worship created humans as sexual beings and that sexual puritanism is less about Biblical teachings than exerting social control over the easily manipulable. For these folks, wielding authority over women is of particular importance, because there are few things the American Taliban fear more than female sexuality.

I don’t know what Mack’s motivation is, nor do I care to delve into his warped religiosity enough to find out. His brand of Christianity is far less about the teachings of Jesus Christ than it is about his generalized fear that others may be getting more nookie than he could ever hope to find. More than anything, it’s about the fear of and a perceived need to control female sexuality.

The assertion that “[m]asturbation is a direct path to Satan,” and that “[t]here’s nothing normal about it” is prima facie absurd. I may reject Christianity, but I do remember enough of it from my Sunday School days to understand that sex was in no way intended by God to be shameful or dirty. Sex is a basic human need and the only practical option for propagating the species. Besides, sex can be a whole helluva lot of fun when done right, and “dirty,” in the words of Mae West, only when it’s done wrong.

There’s nothing to be found in Scripture to support Mack’s contention that sex- whether solo or accompanied by a consenting adult (or adults)- is perilous to one’s spiritual health. He can hold forth on the evils of sex all he chooses, but he doesn’t have a theological leg to stand on. Sex is a natural part of the human condition and his impassioned “shame on any Christian that says so” declaration represents the bleating of a very small mind frightened of sexual pleasure.

“Many of you who are reading this have sex toys in your possession right now,” he noted. “And whether you want to accept it as fact or not: those sex toys are an open portal between the demonic realm and your own life.”

“As long as you have those sex toys in your home, you have a doorway that can allow demons to not only access your life at will, but also to torment you, hinder and destroy certain parts of your life as it relates to sex and your relationships.”

Consider yourselves warned, ladies….

There’s nothing unnatural, wrong, or dirty about sex- or the myriad, multi-faceted forms of sexual expression. People like Mack are why adults grow up with warped and repressed views about sex. I can think of few things more shameful and unChristian than teaching people to fear and feel shame when it comes sex and sexuality.

The idea that “Christian women are losing their salvation because they masturbate” is ridiculous, little more than an expression of the traditional Conservative culture warrior fear of female sexuality. OMG…If women learn to take responsibility for their own sexual pleasure, how long will it be before they decide they no longer need men???

More than anything, I think Mack needs to get laid.
