In today’s America, we’re faced with numerous weighty and significant issues more than worthy of our attention. Things like immigration, health care, education, foreign policy, civil rights…and the list goes on. These are issues fairly crying out for public discussion. There’s much work to be done, and we can’t abdicate our responsibility and leave the big questions for our elected representatives to resolve…because in case you have noticed, Congress isn’tt doing much of anything these days.
You’d think that we could recognize the importance of addressing (and hopefully resolving) at least a few of the pressing issues we face…and you’d be wrong. We’re distracted by shiny things, like the faux “controversy” over transgender people using public restrooms. Instead of defaulting to respect one another for our shared humanity, too many intellectually/morally challenged patriots are freaking out over who’s peeing next to their kids. Concern for the safety and well-being of one’s children is understandable, but here’s a news flash: You and your kids have been peeing next to transgender people for years without a clue or problem.
We could be discussing how to fix what needs to be fixed and considering how to make America a better place. Instead, the intellectually deficient, easily propagandized and manipulable lowest common denominator is throwing a hissy fit over an invented, nonexistent “crisis” involving people they can’t be bothered to understand. Stay classy, eh?
I suppose this goes a long way towards explaining how Donald Trump has a legitimate shot at being our next President. Greetings from our new idiocracy….
