House Select Committee on Benghazi: A partisan witch hunt looking for a place to happen

WASHINGTON — After spending more than two years and $7 million, the House Select Committee on Benghazi released a report Tuesday that found — like eight investigations before it — no evidence of wrongdoing by then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton or other members of the Obama administration. The House voted to create the committee after Republicans were frustrated that even their own GOP-led committees failed to find wrongdoing in the events surrounding the 2012 attacks in Benghazi, Libya, that killed four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens. But the new report also fails to find evidence of wrongdoing, revealing as all previous reports did that the administration’s response to the terror attacks was flawed, but not malicious or derelict.

Let it never be said that the Party of Fiscal Responsibility © doesn’t think once, twice, three times before spending tax dollars…because they don’t- unless, of course, Democrats are the ones doing the spending.

The next time you hear a Republican talking about how their party is the Party of Fiscal Responsibility ©, that only the GOP isn’t about “taxing and spending,” your response need only be one word: BENGHAZI!!!! What was (the most recent iteration of) the last, best, and perhaps ONLY chance Republicans had to destroy Hillary Clinton’s Presidential hopes died with what can’t even fairly be characterized as a whimper.

After nine- count ‘em, nine- investigation of the tragic attacks in BENGHAZI!!!! that left four Americans dead, including Ambassador Chris Stevens, Republicans in Congress STILL have exactly what they started with- nothing. Nine thorough taxpayer-funded witch hunts investigations into BENGHAZI!!!! haven’t been able to conclusively prove that it was then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s willful neglect that led to the death of four brave Americans. The latest- and blessedly last- investigation merely confirmed what the other eight demonstrated beyond the shadow of a doubt- that the investigations were a partisan witch hunt intended to destroy Hillary Clinton. They were poisoned from the outset by partisan politics and never intended to determine the truth about what happened in Benghazi- unless that “truth” can be used against the presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee.

For Republicans, it’s not about fiscal responsibility, doing the work of the American People, or even about what’s best for the country. It’s always and only about political power, because, as they’ve shown time and time again, when given the chance to govern, they simply aren’t up to the task. If you don’t believe me, try this simple test: How well did the last three Republican Presidents manage the economy? If you answered “ineptly and incompetently,” you win…and you also likely aren’t a Fox News Channel aficionado.

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-WY) and the rest of the Congressional Republican Caucus owe America an apology and a refund for the tax money they’ve wasted on this witch hunt. Then again, an apology presumes they possess the capacity for shame and remorse. When you believe that ONLY Republicans are capable and competent enough to be entrusted with control of American governance, you’re probably convinced shame and remorse are for losers and Liberals.

WE DESERVE BETTER.
