Personal responsibility: Wee don't haz it

A Dallas man is suing a bar where he spent eight hours in December for allegedly serving him too much to drink, leading him to crash his car. According to the Dallas Morning News, Gordon Savage is suing W.W. Fairfield’s restaurant and club in Richardson after an eight-hour drinking binge that culminated in him leaving the bar and getting behind the wheel of his vehicle. He ended up crashing into a dividing wall on the North Central Expressway. Savage is seeking nearly $1 million in damages from the watering hole. The man’s lawyer alleges that the bar continued to serve him after 2 a.m. He crashed his vehicle just after 3 a.m., according to the report, and suffered severe injuries in the process. He was not charged with driving while intoxicated, however, and no one else was injured in the crash. Savage’s attorney, Tom Carse, told the Dallas Morning News that the bar shouldn’t have let his client drink for that long.

That thud you may have heard was the old school concept called “personal responsibility” going down for the count. A concept of particular importance to Conservatives, especially those living in red states, personal responsibility- for those of you unclear on the concept- is the idea that adults are responsible for their own actions and should readily accept the associated consequences. Make bad decisions, and the consequences which flow therefrom are on you, Cupcake. Drink at a bar for eight hours and then attempt to drive home because you believe you can, and…gentleman, start your lawyers Even in Texas personal responsibility is a standard best evaded, even as you demand others step up. You can certainly expect others to accept responsibility for their actions, mistakes, poor decisions, and/or random f—k-ups, but living by the rules you expect others to adhere to? Nah, that’s for losers and Liberals. Besides, that’s why we have attorneys, right? Why would any good, God-fearing, self-respecting patriot accept the consequences of driving drunk when you can blame the bar whose stool you kept warm for eight hours.

[T]he bar shouldn’t have let his client drink for that long?” How about “his client shouldn’t have been drinking for that long?” How about “his client realized that he’d had far too much to drink and called a taxi?” Or even “his client recognized he was in no condition to drive home and handed the bartender his keys?”

Then again, why would any self-respecting adult accept personal responsibility for their f—k-ups when they’re far too busy demanding others accept responsibility for their actions? Especially when the lawyers come along and tell you there’s a large settlement to be had? Why would anyone admit to their mistakes when there’s a payday in their future?

Double standard?? WHAT double standard???
